Jaws | Peter Benchley
post image

📖 Jaws, although I will confess to never having read it....I'm too scared! Sharks are one of the few things that scare me to the point of potentially not being able to handle it!

🎬 Finding Nemo-“Fish are friends, not food!“

🎶 Shark in the Water by VV Brown

Happy Monday! #manicmonday

Godislove It was much scarier to watch it and read it. Benchley actually used a more scientific narrative when describing the Villain. Mr. Peter kept calling it a fish. Hard to imagine a Maneater when it keeps getting referred to as a fish. 5y

My July wrapup of reading!
I am so glad to say I do not feel like I read a bad book in July. That makes me especially glad when July was rough in my life outside reading! Glad that reading remains a great method of escaping reality :)

JanuarieTimewalker13 It‘s SUCH a great escape, harmless, entertaining educational, informational. It‘s such a great pastime! 5y

📕 Definitely The Flight Girls, I won it in a Goodreads giveaway recently!

1. Outlander #7, along with several others. I fell into my classic problem of picking up around 9 books at once! 😱 2 The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. 3. Read at least 150 pages each day for The Reading Rush!

I think this book is excellent for the right type of reader. If you want a mystery with a ghost story element and something that isn't very scary, it is the perfect book for you! I generally prefer my mystery books to have a bit more of a scare factor, and overall I thought the mystery had too many components to it, but I can absolutely see why the right type of reader would fall in love with this book.

I went back and forth on this, but I ultimately had to decide on a 4 star review because as so many people have said, a lot of the second half of the book just does not have the same gripping and visual writing as the first. After a scene that marks the midpoint of the book, I found the book was lacking the vivid and compelling world I had experienced in the first half. The ending is beautiful though, so I say still worth the read!

Bakingbookworm I‘m half way through now and felt like the writing in the first 1/4 was amazing. I loved the wit. The next 1/4 things have slowed down and, while it‘s not a struggle to read, it‘s just keeping my attention. I hope things pick up again. Great descriptions of the era but not a lot going on ... unless you count Vivian‘s sex life. 5y

4. Wine, books, and a few new bookshelves to hold all my new books! Considering I would definitely put the money to use at Half Price Books, I would come away with quite a haul.....

📖 I'm going with Harry Potter, since I'm one of those #nerds who has also been playing Wizards Unite. Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite!

🎬 In an effort to go away from Harry Potter, I'll go with my second thought, Sleeping Beauty! I love the scene of the owl in the cloak!

🎶 Fireflies by Owl City. Not that I particularly love the song, but it sure gets stuck in your head easily!

2. I had a hard time with this one, but I am just so confused by the concept of sushi burritos. Why????

3. If I'm eating alone then absolutely! Anything for more reading time!

4. Starbucks vanilla latte. Or any vanilla latte would work.

5. Short on time today, so this one is for anyone who wants to share their own!

I love the dedication in this book! After finishing Daisy Jones & The Six, I decided to do an author comparison by reading this book after. I'm about 150 pages in and the book feels SO familiar! Gotta love an author that likes to write strong female characters 💪📚❤️

WhatWouldJaneDo This is on my TBR, glad to hear her work is so good! And badass female characters are always a big plus. 5y
Stormborn1992 @WhatWouldJaneDo in the two books I read, she definitely doesn't set up the female characters to be particularly likable to everyone, but I feel there's no denying that characters like Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo could be characterized as strong female characters. They both know who they are and won't back down from that! 5y
Stormborn1992 @marleed definitely adding the other 2 to my TBR! Thanks! 5y
WhatWouldJaneDo @Stormborn1992 that works for me, I don't need my characters to be likeable as long as they behave in ways that make sense for their personalities (I can't stand it when characters do dumb stuff just to make a plot point happen). 5y

This book drew me in from the start and I didn't want to put it down. There was certainly drama to keep you interested, but it wasn't the extremely gory or played out drama that is seen so often. It was believable, it felt like it could be real life, and managed to be relatable even though my life is far from the one of a major rock star. I highly recommend to any type of reader.

I am always wary of follow up books or sequels, but this one lived up to the hype of the first book in the series, Beartown! I highly recommend these two books to ANYONE, even if you are someone that is strongly opposed to hockey or organized sports. The author has created beautiful characters and a vivid setting and his writing draws me in to the point where I don't want to put the book down until I am done!

This book made me so happy. It took me so long to get through books 4 and 5 in this series, and this one took SO much less time. It made me feel the same way as I did when I was reading the first couple books in the series! If you are hesitant to continue in the series, especially after The Fiery Cross, this one will bring you back to the classic Outlander feel that you likely crave!

baes That was my absolute favorite! ❤️❤️❤️❤️Sadly, I think that‘s where Outlander truly ended for me. I‘m trying to finish book 8, but it is a struggle. 5y

I find it important to remember that when reading a person's autobiography or memoir, we are reading the story of their truth, and how they have experienced situations through their lives. I think she is a great example of persevering through tough times in your life, standing up for yourself, and not letting anyone dictate how you should be living your life. She certainly hasn't.
