A book that‘s been adapted for tv & film so many times that‘s got to mean something ? ( my fave is the one with Gerard Depardieu) friendship obsession riches love revenge (oh my) & reconciliation : the fastest ‘long read‘ ever - be warned: if you start it your loved ones will be studiously kindly ignored for a few days... :)
Sometimes you have to hang the book on the wall. Then you walk past & respond to the decadence with more decadence :)
pickOk : if you‘re a lit grad maybe it‘s not so easy: but Richard Feynman knows how to talk ( the book is from his lectures) & write: he‘s lyrical & inquisitive. He writes physics as if it‘s poetry... the imagination stretched beyond the universe... (apparently there might be more than one) which is what physics is... the mind boggles merrily in his company... but don‘t ask me if I understood :)
pickThere are books & there are books. Tolstoy thought it wasn‘t even a novel. Once you‘ve broken the spine, you‘re safe. An act of vandalism you‘ll never regret. Hover & swoop: that‘s what he did, like a majestic bird of prey. Never mind the names you‘ll never remember till you‘re 100 pp in - a ‘bucket list‘ book is it not, because it alters the reader forever... & we don‘t have forever to regret not being thus altered :)
