A secret door leading to secret worlds? Yes please!
I only read 4 words of the synopsis before buying this: “Fangirl meets Jane Austen“. SOLD.
Not sure I needed/wanted to hear this story from Edward‘s point of view...but was curious enough to buy it. That prob disqualifies me as a twi-hard, but i still maintain Im #TeamEdward
.
started reading this cute little YA rom-com. Frenemies, rival restaurants and a snarky twitter war...are making this a fun and quick read.
A girl, a guy, a dog. Throw in a slightly implausible meet cute, and a playlist to set the mood for each chapter? Count me in!
Give me a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast, and I will read it!! "My father once said we are all dealt a hand at birth. A good hand can ultimately lose—just as a poor hand can win—but we must all play the cards fate deals. The choices we face may not be the choices we want, but they are choices nonetheless.”
YA romance between the troubled, brooding bad boy and the straight-laced quiet girl with a secret. Story is a little bit predictable, and filled with the usual tropes. There are a lot of similarities to 1000 boy kisses. Pick one, and skip the other.
" Remind myself that there is no saving of people--people can only save themselves. The best you can do is help when they're ready.”

Lovely character driven story about a woman whose passion is vintage clothing and finding the perfect look for her customers. I‘m not a fashionista, but I loved the description of the clothing. Likeable and quirky cast of characters, I love when I feel like I know them too. ”It‘s as if you get inside their heads and know just what they need to feel better about themselves. It seems like a heavy gift to carry around with you.‘
“Magic powers would be cool to have, but not at the price of having a psycho evil bitch fairy stuck in my head”.
“But no matter what choices we make, solo or together-our finish line remains the same. No matter how we choose to live, we both die at the end.”
Sweet, and engaging rom com of the friends-to-lovers variety. Millie is emotionally handicapped. Her best friend Reid is practically perfect in every way. Quick read and somewhat predictable. But it doesnt make the ride any less enjoyable. I heart Millie‘s guy squad...reminiscent of Zooey Deschanel‘s New Girl. I could definitely see spin offs with each of the guy characters. In fact i am interested in knowing what happened with them.
The last book in the Jackaby series, and definitely my favorite of the 4.
Enjoyed this more than i thought i would. Historical paranormal-murder mystery with an eccentric detective (arent they all, though?) and his new fresh faced assistant. The mystery is a bit predictable, but its the elements of paranormal and the odd Jackaby, (who reminded me of an emo version of Mr Magorium) that make it interesting. Onto the next book in the series.
Loved the premise of this book, but i found it to be overly verbose. Sentences are monster-long with detailed passages that are imaginative, a bit psychedelic and definitely meandering. i stopped and started this book multiple times. But since i hate to DNF a book, finally powered through. Not really my cup of tea, though i can see the appeal for those who can appreciate the frenetic and tangential pace of this story.
“But knowing you‘re good can only take you so far. At some point, you need someone else to see it, too. Appreciation from people you admire changes how you see yourself.”
The “sex, drugs, and rock and roll” story of a 70s rock band rise to fame, as told from the POV from the different band members.
Super cute/sweet easy read YA novel. If “You‘ve Got Mail” was about teenagers and first love, this would be it.
The Hating Game is a tough act to follow. For me this book fell short.
“He was a kind, beautiful man, with a tendency toward periodic assholery”
“I can‘t know you‘re somewhere in the world and not be with you.”
The cover synopsis states that “its 1986, the era of pop rocks, jelly shoes, and big hair rock bands”. So i was lured in by the hope for some heavy duty nostalgia and pop culture references, alá Ready Player One. This book started out as a coming of age, inexperienced girl dipping her toes into the pools of college debauchery and about 3/4 of the way in, morphed into a full-on Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys mystery. Barely escaped my DNF pile.
Stressful week all around. Need something light hearted and fun with a good dose of romance theown in for good measure. #romance
Patiently waiting for the final book...ready for this story to be done.
Peter K + Lara Jean
“It's not like in the movies. It's better, because it's real.”
#nowreading. Reminds me of Ready Player One...If it took place in World of Warcraft.
I‘m almost sad to get to the final book of the trilogy. I feel like there‘s a book hangover in my future
In the early days, the shop was stocked entirely with his own albums and singles. Because he loved them, and knew everything about them, he arranged them carefully in boxes; not by genre or letters of the alphabet, but more instinctively. He put Bach‘s Brandenburg Concertos, for instance, with Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys, and Miles Davis‘ Bitches Brew. (“same thing, different time,” he said).
5 teenagers wake up in a foreign place. The rich girl, the model, the brain, the tough guy, and the cute guy have discovered they have been abducted to be exhibited as part of an other worldly zoo. No one understands how or why. But in order to survive, the 4 have to work together against their captors.
Don‘t know much about this book...recommendation based on “if you liked High Fidelity”, and Im all in.
This has been in my #tbrpile since I was a kid. Loading this up for my long commute home
I bake inspiration into specific flavors to make it easy for those who frequent my little bake shop to find what they need. Those with a taste for the olive oil cake crave strength, while those who come back for the berry tarts are, unknowingly, seeking wisdom. #bookquotes
Story with an interesting premise (similar to Like Water For Chocolate). Maire has a unique ability to infuse her baked goods with emotions and abilities. She has complete amnesia though, and figuring out who she is and where she came from forms the bulk of the book. The story gets dark really fast, and is annoyingly slow to develop. Ending felt a little rushed, and not well thought out.
Did not finish. Hard to see the whimsy under some of the grotesque. This is not my cup of tea.
