Flights of Fancy | Jen Turano
post image
Pickpick

Flights of Fancy is the first installment in the “America Heiress” series by Jen Turano and I can confidently say she set us up for a wonderful series. She wrote a delightful Historical Fiction novel set just after the Industrial revolution, and was true to what we know and love of her writing. You can expect quick witted stories that have fun twists and turns. I find myself chuckling under my breath frequently and laughing out loud often.

The Seamstress | Allison Pittman

Pittman beautifully developed not one but two main characters. Cousins in the late 1700‘s in France who are more like sisters that bicker, fight, love and hurt. Their crushes on the same men that grow in wildly different ways were masterfully developed and so enthralling to read about. I loved the way Pittman dipped in and out of each girl‘s story. These tandem story lines kept me riveted. I also loved a different perspective on Marie Antoinette.

I haven't breezed through a book this quickly in a long time. While being skeptical of a male main character and the cover image; in the end I absolutely loved how Fisher dealt with addiction, and incorporated more modern challenges in the Amish world. I highly recommend this book. Full review on #inspirationclothesline

Great 40 day workbook for those seeking purpose and next steps. Takes other works by @jennieallen (like Restless and Anything) and delves deeper into them asking the reader to be honest and take their relationship with God deeper through vulnerability and exploration. A great book to walk you through the how and why behind the need to declutter. Lived how Lipp incorporates Scripture, personal stories and that she has a great Facebook group as a resource! Even did an entry in my #illustratingbible to remind myself of what I was learning.

Couldn't put this one down. Set in 1918 during Works War I. Loved the historical richness and learning about carrier pigeons. Loved the characters but would suggest reading "Not By Sight" by @katebreslin as well (or first) since the Reade would know more about main character Colin Mabry and where he comes from. Great entwining of faith into a thrilling tail of spies and espionage. Full review on #inspirationclothesline

Brunsetter did not disappoint. The story was immediately engaging, an easy read, and left me wanting more. I love the format of the diary of Cynthia Cooper. The novella format is a great place for a quick story but doesn‘t lend itself to delving into the intricacies that Brunstetter often creates. A brief and engaging story, with an interesting setting and entertaining storyline. Full review, recipe & guest post from the author on my blog.

This book is filled with hilarious puns, knock-knock jokes and funny sayings. 135 Pages with an average of 4-6 jokes per page, you're guaranteed to find some that hits your funny bone. My six-year-old adores it! See a full review on www.inspirationclothesline.com complete with a video of him telling jokes.

Not sure I've been this excited about a book, in the first couple pages, in a long time! when I requested to review the book I had no idea it would collide with my love for ASL. Has an author ever done this before? @joannebischof is writing in a second language throughout the book... Did you know that ASL has its own grammar system? And those who speak it as their first language learn a second language, English, in order to read and write? #arc

I do not typically read political nonfiction but for my second adventure into this genre I am glad I selected Mansfield's "Choosing Donald Trump." While Mansfield and I do not agree politically it was a great place to learn about who the man is and why he may have been selected by conservatives. Full review on #inspirationclothesline

His Risk is the fourth in the Amish of Hart County series and maybe my favorite! I can't put these little gems down. Love how Gray pairs the tradition of the Amish community with more modern life issues like illness, gang violence, and drugs to create an interesting and engaging story. Not to mention the strong female character she created in Alice and the equally strong man Calvin who appreciates her. Full review on #inspirationclothesline

I appreciated the story‘s secrets and the author‘s ability to keep some things from even us, the readers, including the traitors‘ identity. While I like a good “easy read fiction book” I don‘t love a totally predictable story and this was not that.

The characters, although there are quite a few to keep track of, were memorable enough in their own rights and diverse in personalities.

Okay fellow fiction lovers this is a hilarious and witty read. I have never read books by Jen Turano, but it is laugh out loud funny and totally engaging. I was particularly impressed with the intelligent and engaging dialogue. As an avid reader it isn‘t that often that I truly am brought to tears in laughter or think “that‘s some awesome vocabulary” and I said both these things while reading.

A fabulous and dynamic story about one of the three Bernay sisters. It's a promising start to a great new series. I loved the exposure to the theater and operetta, the lifestyle that goes with it, and the works of George Mueller. Not to mention the interesting dynamics Delamere writes about Victorian England.

I love that the story continues with Evelyn Wisely. I feel like I'm making friends as I move through the series. I also adored that Jagears explore spiritual themes and issues that are faced in this historical time but also today. Politics, church corruption, prostitution, even fetal alcohol syndrome. Very cool spin on a historical fiction series.

I don't often have time for books that aren't up for review or have a very specific purpose. Grabbed this national best seller for $0.10 at a thrift shop called "God's Closet" run by three adorable white haired ladies who were just tickled by our "crowd" arriving at their shop just before closing time. The book is a gem just like the story surrounding its arrival to my "stack." Great story already! Anyone else read it?!

Cashel gets "Who Wants a tortoise?" Two thumbs up. He picked it up at the library and we definitely have enjoyed it several times. It's kind of fun to talk about pets as we will be adding some chickens to our household soon and we've been doing a lot of reading and researching like the main character does at the beginning of the story. This is a great conversation starter for which pets might fit your family.
