The Far Pavilions | M. M. Kaye

Three women authors (#WWW) who influenced my reading life. If it weren't for The Far Pavilions, I wouldn't love giant epic books so much. If it weren't for The Vampire Chronicles, I'd never read so much horror and fantasy. If it weren't for Kinsey Milhone and the Alphabet Series, I would never have switched from romance to thrillers and mysteries. Love these authors and genres! #womenwriters #litfluence #strongwomen #wonderwomenwednesday

BarbaraTheBibliophage And then I remembered. It's Tuesday!! 😜 8y
Dragon I remember The Far Pavilions it was the longest book I had read up to that point. Loved the exotic locale 😀 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Dragon I think it was exactly the same for me! 8y
EvieBee I just started The Far Pavilions! Here's to hoping I too will enjoy epic reads!!! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @EvieBee84 Oh fun! Tag me when you post (if you remember) so I can re-live it! 7y

"The asphalt curved deeply and when it straightened out we saw a huge smoke-stack blowing smut against the sky."

Parts of this collection is told in vernacular and parts have such vivid imagery as above. It's making me want to reread Their Eyes Were Watching God again #wonderwomenwednesday #readwomen #WNDB

LitLogophile That's so funny -- I've never read this, but I grew up in this area, near Polk County 8y

Pickpick

This is my favorite #laidbackbook. After a divorce, this woman goes off to live in the woods on her own. Life goals for sure. This book is also my #www and #recommendsday pick. #augustofpages #bookphotochallenge #wonderwomanwednesday #wonderwomenwednesday

TheSpinecrackersBookClub Great way of displaying the book. 8y
BookishFeminist This looks super interesting! Also love the three for one! 8y

This works for #wonderwomenwednesday #recommendsday and the #LitsyLove that has been overwhelmingly amazing. I love every single Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli film because every single one has a strong female character that doesn't fit into the traditional "she needs a man" trope. And I just want to reiterate that this community is the best on social media. Everyone is so kind &funny and I finally feel like I'm no longer that loner kid reading by herself

StephBengtson I love this movie! 8y
OSChamberlain My mom worked nights at a bar she owned when I was a kid. Every night before leaving she would put this videotape on for me to fall asleep. This movie was my life! 8y
BookishFeminist I'm gonna have to check this out! Looks good. 8y

Alisnazzy @BookishFeminist Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are probably the best Miyazaki films but all of them are amazing. 8y
ImaginativeMom We're huge Miyazaki, and Studio Ghibli in general, fans in this house. I love KiKi's! 8y
Alisnazzy @ImaginativeMom I've got every SG except Kaguya and Wind Rises. I know what I'll be asking Santa for this Christmas lol. Plus my son is loving them too and that makes me so incredibly happy. 8y
