Trans-Sister Radio: A Novel | Chris Bohjalian

I swear, I did not stage this image or put TRANS-SISTER RADIO in this Little Free Library. I spotted it in Middlebury while walking Jesse, my beloved dog. This is one more reason why I love #Vermont: my most #bannedbook in a #littlefreelibrary .

marleed I love to see banned books in LFLs. It has to be a thrill to author a banned book yet see it out there in the wild awaiting a new reader! 12mo

This is beautifully written. If you consider yourself an ally, as I do, I recommend this. It‘s so much more than a love story, and despite being published in 2000, is still absolutely relevant today. @ChrisBohjalian thank you for writing such an important story ❤️

This is an excellent memoir on a timely topic. Boylan addresses the psychological, emotional, physical, familial, and practical aspects of transitioning genders. And she does it with humor, subtlety, and grace.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in one person's story about transgender life. The author does an excellent job reading the audiobook.

Scochrane26 This would be a good book for some of my teen clients who want to transition. 2y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Scochrane26 in some ways, it would. But it also deals with marriage and parenthood a lot, which is probably less relevant for them. 2y
Scochrane26 @BarbaraTheBibliophage Thanks for the info, I was wondering after I said that. 2y

I got through this book super fast. Published in 2004, it tells the story of a transgender youth, but from the perspective of the sister. There‘s language that‘s outdated (G-girl instead of cisgender, for example), but the struggle is real. It‘s emotional and frustrating, and I‘m grateful things are somewhat better today. At least we have better terms.

Very, very thought-provoking and unique. Made me really think about gender norms, stereotypes and issues we have today in the world. #LMPBC #Round13 #GroupN @Lauranahe @HWarren

@Lauranahe this is on its way to you tomorrow.

This book about a transgender teen girl written from the perspective of her sister captures a lot of the confusion family members must feel when a sibling comes out. It must have been so ahead of its time when it was written in 2004, but some of the slang/terminology is outdated from “parental units” to “GG - genetic girl” instead of cisgender. Still a pick. 🏳️‍⚧️ #audiobook

Leslie Feinberg was both a poet and a theoretician. This book is a beautiful weaving together of personal narratives as well as queer history and theory. Feinberg shares with us in this book their vision for a radically transformed world and inspires us to believe it is possible. A true revolutionary whose words I will be returning to over and over again.
