I swear, I did not stage this image or put TRANS-SISTER RADIO in this Little Free Library. I spotted it in Middlebury while walking Jesse, my beloved dog. This is one more reason why I love #Vermont: my most #bannedbook in a #littlefreelibrary .

pickAs an ally and as someone who used to live in Vermont, I appreciate this novel. Mr. Bohjalian did an excellent job of portraying the hate that transgender people and their loved ones endure in this country; he did an excellent job of portraying the devastating effects that this hate has on the people who are targeted as well. This is entertainment with a relevant, timely message. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in equality for all.
On Tuesday, Massachusetts voted to upheld protections for transgendered people. In celebration, the Watertown Free Public Library created this Staff Picks selection. Thank you, Massachusetts -- and thank you, Watertown. Honored to see Trans-Sister Radio there.
Because this is Banned Books Week -- my book that people have tried to ban. A transgender love story, the novel was published in May 2000.
June is LGBTQ Book Month, and I am so proud of this display at the Merrimack Public Library in Merrimac, NH. There are some residents there who are lobbying to have "Trans-Sister Radio" removed, and I am so proud of the librarians there for fighting against censorship. We all know what we lose when books are banned or hidden away. Thank you, Merrimack Library!
