Has anyone else read this? Does it get better and/or less confusing?

I‘m only 30 pages in and already debating whether or not I should just move on . . . #tobailornottobail. #thatisthequestion #bail

Lauren_reading It‘s a lot to take in, but I found it interesting and just accepted that I‘d be confused 😀 5y
Kaila-ann @LaurenReads I‘m just hoping it‘s worth it lol. I‘m going to give it a little further and see if it starts growing on me 🤷🏻‍♀️. I might get the hang of this writing style 🤔🤣 5y
megnews I loved it! But it‘s definitely different 5y

Kaila-ann @megnews it does seem to have good reviews. It‘s just taking me a bit to figure out the style so as not to be completely lost 😳🤣. 5y
Tashreads I loved it! If you are struggling may I suggest the audiobook? It‘s great! 5y
Kaila-ann @Tashreads I might look into the audio book but I think I‘m catching on to the rhythm of the way the story is told. I think I‘m going to stick with it 😊. 5y
monalyisha @Tashreads is right! Audio‘s definitely the way to go! SUCH an expansive, talented cast (even Jeff Tweedy)! 😱😍 5y
Kaila-ann @monalyisha @Tashreads I ended up enjoying the book but I‘ll definitely be revisiting this in the form of the audiobook. 5y
monalyisha @Kaila-ann Nice! 5y
Tashreads Yes! It‘s a great cast 😊 5y

OK Litsyverse, I‘m 25% in to this and, unless it gets a lot better, I‘m wasting my time. Has anyone finished this who can give me a reason to go on? So far it‘s clunky (could be the translator?) and everything is TOLD instead of SHOWN. #toBailOrNotToBail?

Tamra I would have picked it up for the cover. 6y
Lcsmcat @Tamra I do like the cover, but I picked it because it was free from Amazon‘s read around the world. 6y

I‘m about half way through this one and as much as I want to enjoy it, I‘m just not. It may make its way back to the library unfinished and maybe I‘ll try again in the future. I hate giving up on books but there are just so many others waiting to be read 🤔. Decisions, decisions. #tobailornottobail #tofinishornot

Moony Oh yes I know this internal monologue 😄 But often the argument, that there are so many cool books in the world is stronger. 6y
Kaila-ann @Moony I‘m sure it‘s a familiar argument to us all 😉. The more I think about it, the more I think that it‘s going to go back to the library. I‘m still not 100% but there are so many books sitting on my shelves that I may adore vs just feeling meh. 6y

Outlander | Diana Gabaldon

Well, I‘m about halfway through Outlander now and it has gotten progressively more rapey and abuse heavy. I‘m not sure I want or need to continue. I know it‘s supposed to be viewed through a historical lense, but ugh. I was enjoying the romance before the abuse and subsequent justification for the abuse, and I know this is a well loved novel...Soooo what do you think, Litsy, should I continue on or bail? #tobailornottobail

Seekingtardis I bailed about 3/4 the way through this one. I couldn‘t get into it and it was cringing a lot of time. 6y
Caterina SAME. Ugh I was so disappointed, before the first abuse incident I was really enjoying it. I ended up finishing it, but will not be reading the rest of the series. Definitely bail if you like, it's too long to suffer through XD 6y
Bklover I‘ve bailed on this one twice. 6y

parttimedomestic @Seekingtardis @Caterina @Bklover Thanks, y‘all. I think I‘m officially bailing. Life‘s too short to hate a book. 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig I knew of Outlander books but hadn‘t read until the TV show. After 1st episode I bought book. When I got to Wentworth I put book down. After a couple of days I picked back up because I wanted to know if Jamie was ok. I have read entire series. For the most part I enjoy but yes I think there is to much sexual violence in series. I will continue to read yes, 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig ^but I don't recommend them to people because of the violence. 6y

The Glass Castle: A Memoir | Jeannette Walls

I need your #help, Littens! I‘ve had several people recommend this one to me, but I‘ve listened to about 1.5 hours out of 10.5 hours and I‘m just finding myself thoroughly depressed by this woman‘s childhood! Please tell me it gets better...if it just gets more depressing, I don‘t think this one is for me. Help me decide: should I bail? #tobailornottobail (Also—is it weird that I think the author is not doing a great job reading her own memoir??)

RebelReader I read the book years ago and basically it is sad. If you need to bail, but want the ending I‘d see the movie. I thought it was very well done. 6y
RebelReader Also, I‘m not a fan of authors reading their writing. Except for poetry...then I love to hear them read it. Weird I know! 😂 6y
knittedgnome I had a hard time with this one too and felt it didn't go enough into her life as an adult. 6y

Stacy_31 I read that book in college, and it was painful to finish. The whole story is sad, and doesn‘t really get better, IMO. I wanted to like it. But I think she‘s just not a good author, even though it‘s her memoir. 🙈 (edited) 6y
asiriusreader @RebelReader thank you for your opinion—helpful to know the movie is worth seeing, especially since I‘m leaning towards bailing if the whole story is just as sad. I do enjoy some authors reading aloud their own works—Neil Gaiman comes to mind (though I think I could probably listen to him read just about anything!). 6y
asiriusreader @knittedgnome I‘m glad I‘m not the only one who had a hard time with it! I‘m thinking it‘s just not for me. 6y
asiriusreader @Stacy_31 thank you for your opinion—that is my fear (that it‘s not going to get any better). I‘m going to give it another 15 minutes of listening and then call it. Most likely going to be a DNF for me. I‘m not really loving her writing style either. 6y

I‘m not sure about this one, so far it seems really gossipy and aimless. #tobailornottobail

I have 100 pages left in this but I‘m kind of bored with it. It‘s a library loan so I wouldn‘t feel badly about bailing, but it‘s really not doing anything for me. #ToBailOrNotToBail

MayJasper Decisions decisions... 7y
MicheleinPhilly @MayJasper I might just start something else and see if the mood to finish strikes in a couple of days. I still have 5 days left on the loan. 7y
AlaMich Is it just me—and this is not to criticize your choice of book at all—but haven‘t we reached critical mass with books that have the word “girl” in the title? 7y

Mehso-so

Half way through and this isn‘t holding my attention. Not sure why. Think I‘ll push a bit more and see if it clicks. I‘m not connecting with the characters and the Turkey/Armenia subplot seems so futile. (Confession: I‘m also reading Sand Castle Girls, about the Armenian genocide.) #tobailornottobail #turkey #armenia

Help Littens! I‘m maybe half way through this audio and so tempted to bail on it. I usually love memoirs but this one is uninspiring and boring so far. Should I keep going? Has anyone else read this? #tobailornottobail

Wife I bailed on the audiobook. I did leave it on my TBR to maybe try in print someday. 7y
