Taking. Today. Off. Mom and I are beyond exhausted. Her best friend brought us lunch, and she took some of these callas. We have this x3 so plenty(!) to share.

Going to stare at the tv as much as possible. 💕💕 Thank you all so much for the love and caring!

Megabooks @LiteraryinLititz @Eggs @Leftcoastzen thank you all!! I wish it had been more of a break as the air conditioner and ice maker both needed repairs, but I did get a three hour nap!! #smallvictories!! 5y

Some of the best days are when you discover some new techy tidbit, you try it, it actually works the way it‘s supposed to the FIRST TIME, and then it improves your life in some small but appreciable way.
I figured out that I could add the Hoopla channel to my Roku, and now I can watch my borrowed video content on a big screen!

DGRachel Nice! 5y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I didn‘t know that was possible! I can‘t wait to try this! 5y
AlaMich @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled It‘s great! We watched the first season of The Alienist, which was very good. The four borrows/month limit my library allows make it a little challenging to watch a series, but I cheat and use my wife‘s Hoopla account also. 5y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Smart idea! Ha!! 5y

Brothers Karamazov | Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Finishing one book (or three books) before starting a new one is apparently not something I'm into right now.

Brothers Karamazov is my white whale of books. I have gamely started it at least a dozen times only to bail very quickly. I realized the translation likely had much to do with it. Borrowed the Garnett translation from the library, and it's already going so much better. Made it past the first page and everything! #smallvictories

batsy Just curious if your previous attempts were of the translation by Pevear and Volokhonsky? I read a long essay once that said they are not very good (despite their ubiquity), but I can't find that article now! This is on my TBR and I was thinking I want to read it in the Garnett translation too. 7y
kalinichta @batsy Mine was McDuff. I'd done some cursory research and was leaning toward Pevear and Volokhonsky. But when the urge took me, it wasn't available at my library. Garnett has good flow that feels natural in English. 7y
batsy @kalinichta Ah, OK! Thanks :) I've not read any of the McDuff ones. 7y

Years ago, Anne Lamott's "Bird by Bird, Instructions on Writing and Life," inspired me to tackle the daunting task of researching and writing a book. Yesterday, I started Lamott's 2014 collection of essays, "Small Victories, Spotting Improbable Moments of Grace." I'm a chapter in, and once again bowled over by her talent.
