Not a day goes by that I don‘t miss my dad… he has been gone three years and I would give anything for him to interrupt me reading again!

Made a quick overnight to Maine this week and found another good used bookstore. Happy with my haul and particularly pleased to have found the last book in Cora Sandel's Alberta trilogy.

LeahBergen Fabulous haul! 👍 2y
Leftcoastzen Wow ! 2y
sherri Those covers are wonderful! 2y

batsy Wow, what a haul 😍 2y
merelybookish @LeahBergen I thought of you when I found the Goudge. 🙂 2y
merelybookish @Leftcoastzen @batsy It felt pretty lucky! And all the books had a set price so regretting a few I left behind now. 2y
merelybookish @sherri Yes the Godden and the Goudge are both pretty special. 2y
Leftcoastzen I can tell by what you picked out that their inventory must be vast ! Not afraid to carry oldies ! 2y
merelybookish @Leftcoastzen The store wasn't that big or overcrowded. But it was located in the same town as one of those eccentric liberal arts Maine colleges. 2y
Centique 😍 amazing finds! 2y

Pickpick

This is the 3rd Godden novel I've read, & while not, my favorite, I do enjoy her intricate emotional stories that spin around an event, in this case the death of a pet, that expose larger cracks. Published in 1942, it has some issues. Set in India (where she grew up there), it aims to be sensitive, but has some questionable arguments about European ingenuity. Nevertheless her plotting and insight into human behaviour make for a good read.

merelybookish First book for #192025. One down, 99 to go. 😁 @Librarybelle 2y

merelybookish @Librarybelle @batsy It was a long day but we made it home as planned! (Which is not the case for many people flying in Canada this summer.) 2y
Centique I am so envious of the beautiful old edition! #rumerrules 2y
merelybookish @Centique Thank you! I try to pick them up when I see them (which isn't often.) Do you have a favourite? 2y
Centique So far I‘ve only read two of her adult books and my favourite was 2y
Centique But I adored her kids books - Dolls House and Holly and Ivy were my absolute favourites as a child. 2y
merelybookish @Centique Good to know!! I didn't read her as a kid but An Episode of Sparrows is by far my favourite of hers so far and it's for children. I've also read The Greengage Summer (which I liked a lot) and this one. 2y

Here‘s my “vintage book find of the day” that I picked up while running some errands. I like Rumer Godden; has anyone read it?

Centique Ooooh. That is a beauty! I haven‘t read it. 3y
SayersLover I also like Rumor Godden, but I haven‘t read this one either. Please give us a review whenever you‘re done. 😉@LeahBergen 3y

CarolynM Great find. I've never read any Rumer Godden. 3y
LeahBergen @Centique I like the colours! 😆 3y
LeahBergen @SayersLover I shall! 😊 3y
LeahBergen @Cathythoughts It‘s my only talent. 🤣 3y
LeahBergen @CarolynM I think you‘d really like 3y
tenar I‘ve been meaning to read In This House of Brede for a year or more now, and maybe I would have if it was as beautiful as this! 😍 Looking forward to your thoughts. 3y
LeahBergen @tenar It‘s strange but I always seem to enjoy a book more if I like the edition (and reach for it sooner, as well). 😆 3y

1. I like them. But I don't always end up liking the book.
2. I have this book “pillow“ but it's more of a stand for on the couch. it works with my books, and my ipad. and it has pockets. If I get a chance tonight. I'll take a picture.
3. Opps I should have read this before I tagged the book I did. So lets go with the Garth Nix Keys to the Kingdom Series (if I was paying attention I would have tagged Sir Thurday.)

Thank @moonwithc94

RaeLovesToRead Ooh... a book pillow... I'm intrigued... 3y
Chrissyreadit I want to see the book pillow😍 3y

A Breath of Air | Rumer Godden
Mehso-so

Everyone should read RG (Five For Sorrow, Ten for Joy, say, or The River)--reading RG fills in women's history let alone exposes one to a master stylist. All so 1950 tho: Michener's South Pacific meets, well, an RG novel. Prepare for borderline portrayals of imaginary islanders & maybe don't read in tandem w/ Lost Horizon or subpar Conrad for all will meld. Be warned too that this is a full-on Tempest ripoff, nothing not promised on p. 1 ;)
