Not my favorite Conroy. The descriptions of Charleston were long-winded and boring; and quite frankly, annoying. But the story, oh man, what a story! It was compelling, ugly, thought provoking, gripping, and worth reading.

bookandbedandtea I loved this book when I was a kid! I think I was 10 or so when I got it from a book fair and I know I read it multiple times throughout middle school. Child-me was very impressed by Karana. 1mo
