We also learned about the Theory of Chaos where small actions can have a large impact on complex systems over time. I got a feeling we‘ll be using this theory more often. I‘m not going to make a discussion out of it, but I want us all to think about the previous books we have read and think about where the Theory of Chaos may apply. #theoryofchaos #history #europe #europeanhistory #normandavies #cnossos #mycenae #crete #prehistory

We learned some new terms in the end starting with Catastrophe Theory where math is used to understand how sudden, discontinuous changes can arise from smooth, continuous changes. #chaostheory #europe #normandavies #history #prehistory #cnossos #mycenae #thera #europeanhistory #volcano #volcanoceruptions #greece

Random book from our personal library. My apologies for displaying a dead person ('Tollund Man'), especially one who probably died violently, with no warning.

The Horse, the Wheel, the Language, by David W. Anthony (2007)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Premise: A thorough exploration of the evidence in favour of the Kurgan hypothesis of Indo-European origins.

Review: This did a great job in filling in the pieces for me in where this area of study has been at this century. It offers a detailed defense of the Kurgan hypothesis through a mixture of linguistic and archaeological evidence. Cont.

Mattsbookaday That said, in this thoroughness it got awfully repetitive, knocking it down a bit for me. It‘s also now 17 years old, so we‘ll have to see how it stands up to the new release on the topic.

Bookish Pair: For a new title on the subject I‘m excited to read, Proto by Laura Spinney

I've read so many authors from #threelistthursday, just not the specific book that was chosen. 🤣
Random Thoughts
🩵 I was happy to see Jean Auel's The Clan of the Cave Bear on the list. The series is so good, but I don't see it on many lists.
🩵 I'm finally going to tackle Don Quixote in 2026.
🩵 A #bookishconfession: I've started Great Expectations 3 different times and never finished. I have no idea why. I liked what I read! 🫠
@dabbe

TheSpineView I enjoyed The Clan of the Cave Bear series too. 3mo
dabbe CLAN is now higher up on my TBR. I tried QUIXOTE but failed. 😖 Perhaps I'll try again. I totally understand re: GREAT EX. It took me a while to get past a LOT of descriptive stuff, but then the story just takes off! That one and BLEAK HOUSE are my favorites by Dickens. Thanks for playing and sharing. 💙📚💚 3mo
lil1inblue @dabbe Clan is so great, but I *loved* the second book, The Valley of the Horses. I'm starting the third book next month-ish. I really need to try Great Ex one more time. Perhaps a chapter a day type thing like Les Mis. That's how I'm hoping to do Quixote next year. Thanks for #tlt - it's such a fun exercise! 3mo
dabbe @lil1inblue I'll reread GREAT EX with you when you're ready and if you want! And TY! I try to make it fun! 😍 3mo

10/10. Very well written and gave a wonderful and interesting visualisation of life, love and humanity in the Stone Age.

I remember as a child and seeing The Earth's Children everywhere. I knew just by looking at the covers that they were going to be great reads. I just forgot about them. Thank goodness they are in my universe again. In fact, I can't wait to finish reading the series just to start again. This one, in particular, is the best at survival in the wild - the Ice Age wild.
