She's great, not just at singing/making music but also as a writer, a chronicler and making sense of stuff.
I was a late comer to EBTG in the 90s so this was good to understand her, and their, beginnings and journey.

Prog-rock‘s light blazed for a few years in the 70s. Ironic that its death knell tolled when the faux-anarchism & primitivism of 3-chord punk rockers like the Sex Pistols situated themselves as a push back against the (sad but sometimes true) accusation that prog was self-indulgent keyboard noodling for male dweebs. The final nail in the coffin was Spinal Tap‘s bass player getting stuck in his plastic pod. Prog‘s story is eminently readable fun!

Bookwomble I love a bit of prog! Yes, naturally, also Soft Machine and Kevin Ayers. Two literary prog masterpieces are Bo Hansson's "Music Inspired by The Lord of the Rings", and Jeff Wayne's "The War of the Worlds" (I guess I should also throw in Alan Parsons "Poe" album). Who're your prog recommendations? 6mo
The_Book_Ninja @Bookwomble well, I have to be honest, before this book all I knew was Genesis, King Crimson, Gentle Giant and Van De Graaff Generator. This book educated me on the bands and what their members did after the mighty prog rock beast was slain by a giant safety pin on the muddy swamps of McLarenshire. I personally prefer when prog rock met jazz with Zappa and the mighty George Duke. Also check out a 70s French band called Cortex…wild Mooginess 6mo
Bookwomble @The_Book_Ninja Thanks, JT, I'll check at least some of these out (not overcommitting myself, I see! 😅) 6mo

New Book of Rock Lists | Dave Marsh, James Bernard

Only 31/100 albums make my list. Most of that comes from the 60's, 70's and 80s, I'm not even sure who some of the later groups and artists were. I would have added a couple more Bowie albums and Night at the Opera by Queen on the list also.
Thank you for the tag @dabbe #ThreeListThursday

dabbe I think only 1 Bowie made the list. 😱 And where was Queen? And more Led Zepp? I've got tons of new albums now to listen to! 🤩😂😀 7mo

For me, it's a tie between Escape (The Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes and Afternoon Delight by the Starland Vocal Band. Both songs make me want to switch the dial immediately!! Also, Escape is probably the most unrealistic song about infidelity ever written. #tuesdaytunes @TieDyeDude

TieDyeDude Ha, I re-watched an episode of It's Always Sunny recently where they were arguing about Escape being a Jimmy Buffett song 😅 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wahj_Dexhxw

Solid choices. “Thanks“ for playing 😉

Megabooks I‘ve always found both these songs funny! 7mo
AlaMich I was a kid when Afternoon Delight was on the radio…never had a clue what the title referred to! 😂 7mo

Leftcoastzen Eewww! Agree 7mo
Ruthiella Oh, I love both those songs. They remind me of being 10 years old and having no clue what either song was really about. 😆 7mo
CarolynM I agree Escape is completely unrealistic, but I thought it was kinda cute when I first heard it. My 24yo daughter, however, is appalled by it🤣 7mo

I'm sure there's tons, but these are the first to spring to mind:
Just Like Heaven - The Cure
I Wanna Dance with Somebody - Whitney Houston
Modern Love/Let's Dance - David Bowie (I can't choose between them!)

Just three?!?😮 How, Denise???😁

I just love 80s music. I cannot possibly decide.
And as a fan of Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode, (not only their 80s songs!) I love two groups that had their first success in the 1980s which makes it even more impossible to choose.
3 fave songs from other artists:
1. True Faith by New Order
2. Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield
3. The Loco-Motion by Kylie Minogue

dabbe That's why I have “of“ in there ... because how can we possibly say just three? Excellent choices! 🤩 Thanks for “play“ing! 🎶🖤🎶 8mo
RaeLovesToRead I can't listen to moonlight shadow without thinking about Dave Angel: Eco Warrior from The Fast Show 🤣 https://youtu.be/KGApBIcXeT8?feature=shared 8mo

Beatlesongs | William J. Dowlding

#BigFabBeatles

Today‘s the day! On Feb 9, 1964 the Beatles performed on the Ed Sullivan Show, watched by 73 million viewers. I‘m celebrating the 60th anniversary with Beatles book bingo! Each square has a Beatles song title. You can fit a book to each square however you want to - be creative and just have fun with it. I‘ll give some examples ⬇️

CSeydel “Yesterday” - can be a book set in the past, a book published in the past, a book that uses flashbacks as a narrative device, etc
“Eleanor Rigby” - a character named Eleanor, author has initials E & R, theme of loneliness, main character is an older woman, etc.
Any way you want to tie it in is fine! This is meant to be casual and fun.
