The humor in this book was the page-turner for me! And when Avnar‘s dad takes him for ice cream, reading it in my head with an accent had me howling 🤣🤣. But the story line is good, too.

I got this book a couple of years ago for a "Read the World" challenge, which was good as far as it went, but it didn't get as far as #Pakistan ! ??
A Muslim family saga told from a female perspective against the tumultuous backdrop of Partition.

Malala is such an inspiring girl, strong in her beliefs from a young age and resilient in the face & aftermath of attack. I learned a lot about Pakistan and the Taliban. It's so eye opening to have a perspective from someone who has lived through it, without our western bias

The wrath of the Taliban is depressing and traumatic and her story is no exception. Malala ‘s father is pro women‘s education where only men get it. The Pashtun tribe of Pakistan is very peaceful and has lots of passed down wisdom, and devotion to the peaceful religion of Islam. Life was good for her and her family.

People forgot about her, in my opinion. She‘s a brave and strong woman who deserves our respect by reading her book.

I would incorporate this book into my classroom to talk about adversities that other people endure around the world. This book would be a great conversation starter for many moral mini lessons.

A touching a heartfelt story about a young girl who stood up for women‘s rights and education. I love the representation I would pull into my classroom with using this book.
