YA historical fiction with two main characters: Frankie is a young woman growing up in an orphanage after her father decided he didn‘t want to raise her and her siblings. Pearl is a ghost who often visits the orphanage, as well as other Chicago locations.
Takes place during WWII, and all of the young men are conscripted at 18, many of them never coming home.
I liked both storylines and this different angle on WWII historical fiction.
#OminousOctober Day 7: I have a feeling there‘s a #Monster somewhere in this horror story. Recent book haul.
I don‘t know what to say about this short read. It‘s devastating and haunting, and yet it captures something familiar about childhood and the outsized way we process our emotions when we are young. So many emotions captured in under 100 pages.

& I‘ve read 3 more books! The tagged was quick, creepy, wicked, & even a little surprising. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pride.. is a YA retelling w a 17-year-old protagonist pursuing a legal career… I liked it more than I expected! ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
And Spells & Caramels — not terribly original or surprising, but thoroughly enjoyed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I finished this book in December, but am just getting around to a review. While picking up a reserve at the Library, I noticed this small book in a display of Christmas books. It was too appealing not to take home with me. Louisa May Alcott wrote the three short stories as a contribution to a literary publication created by five of her fans, the Luken girls. Heartwarming, sentimental, gentle, uplifting. Just what I wanted for the Holidays.
Another pick - it started off slow but picked up as it went and was a great read. Once I got about halfway through it was hard to put down. Another sad story of history - this time about a family sent to the Tennessee Children‘s Home Society orphanage. What these orphanages (and the director Georgia Tann) got away with and what the wealthy let them get away with is heartbreaking.

@ozma.of.oz is hosting a set-your-own goals #Adventathon for this month. For this challenge, I'm going to focus on books I own, as I frequently get distracted by library and Kindle Unlimited books this time of year!!

It‘s one of the 3 books I‘d like to read for the South Asia prompt in the Read Around The World Challenge.
#bookspinbingo
April #bookspinbongo list. I read 10 books with 1 bingo, but not my #bookspin or #doublebookspins. The 1st month in a while I haven‘t finished them both.
