I really need to start reading all the Buffy & Angel books I own; I have so many of them and haven't even read one yet! The Seniors book is one I hope to get to this month for #NostalgiaNovember. #NovemberbytheNumbers #16

TK-421 @RestlessFickleBookSlut I have about 30 of them, and haven't read them yet! I have about a dozen Angel novels, too. I think I need to set aside a weekend for a Buffy marathon, but I'm afraid once I start reading these, I'll want to binge-watch the whole series. 7y

Sace @TK-421 we had started binge watching the series years ago, but after Offspring went off to college my husband and I lost interest in it. We really should get back to it. 7y

Secrets (Sweet Valley High #2) | Francine Pascal

The best thing about this book was that the controlling boyfriend was portrayed as being unreasonable. No "oh, he just loves you too much" crap. It's mentioned that his parents were divorced because his mother had an affair (explaining his distrust) but thankfully that wasn't used as an excuse to justify his behaviour. The message that excessive jealousy & lack of trust aren't part of a healthy relationship is an important one. #NostalgiaNovember

TK-421 And fortunately, Enid later realizes that she's better off without him because "a relationship that wasn't built on honesty and trust wasn't any kind of relationship at all." 7y

Sace I'm starting to think that SVH was a little more forward thinking in their stories/character reactions. A lot of the Wildfire books I've been reading have a real anti counter-culture vibe to them. So it's a lot of girls are taken with kind of jerky guys and the future is pretty much marriage and family. 7y

From what you said, SVH might've been a bit better: Mrs Wakefield has a career & Liz is a writer with goals beyond dating boys & being popular. But Jessica? 😡 I'd rant about how much I loathe her & why she's a terrible role model, but I need WAY more than 451 chars! In both books, Liz teaches her a lesson, but the punishments don't come close to matching the scale of Jessica's schemes 7y

Sace I've still got SVH on my TBR. The Wildfire books seem to try to have modern aspects. Ellynne's mom was in law school and there's been a couple of mentions of women's lib, but overall it's felt like "let's make sure this new gen doesn't get caught up in that hippie culture." 7y

Ugh. Ellynne was shallow and annoying for most of the book. She came to her senses at the end which saved this from pan. I guess I should give a nod to the (white) author for a character of color except she put the words "honeychile" in her mouth ?

Side note- Goodreads numbers drive me BSC and have for years. Also, I'm still having to enter reading dates on my computer AND phone to make things save and display. ?

So I sucked at my own #horrifiedreads challenge and only finished 2 books. @TK-421 was rockin' the 80s teen romance though!

Compared to Superflirt this was a solid pick. The story was pretty simple, but felt more engaging. I gotta say that Gary was scary AF. Pre-teen me was probably clueless, but adult me was screaming "Run, Jennifer!" He was like a controlling cult leader!

I'm going to keep reading these and just change to #nostalgianovember ?

Not sure what to be more horrified about - the fact that I already owned so many of these or the fact that a sought out a few more and bought them.
