"OK, it's 3.47 in the morning," Marco said. "And i'm here because my Dad is a sound sleeper and doesn't notice when I wake up screaming because an owl and a hawk have just flown through my window."

This series goes SO HARD! And it‘s still so early in the series. Lots of impossible, hard decisions to be faced.

I enjoyed the pop culture references in this one - we had the GAP and we had a new Keanu Reeves movie playing at the cinema.

My first finish for #auldlangspine2025. This was such a great pick @DGRachel

I loved this world of tea dragons! It made me smile, reflect and appreciate the work the authors put into the story and graphics. I look forward to returning to the tea dragon world.

DGRachel Yay! I‘m so glad you enjoyed it. Another Litten had posted about it and I was in desperate need of a book hug and thought it was perfect for that. 17h
Darklunarose I loved these books. Sweet, beautiful and inclusive. 15h
Mollyanna @DGRachel “a bug hug” That is the perfect description of the book 13h
Mollyanna @Darklunarose I am looking forward the other two in the series. 13h

The story was well executed. It tackled the complex issue of gentrification (specifically in a Chinatown context) in an accessible way. At the end of the book, there were a few pages with background information on Chinatowns, gentrification, community activism, and a short note on the language used (Chinese dialogue is used throughout the story).

I really enjoyed this contemporary MG novel about a boy running a family greenhouse with his older brother after the death of their parents. His teacher assigns a project in which he must relate events & tasks in his own life to the 12 labors of Hercules. There‘s a lot of mythological information and an amazing setting on Cape Cod alongside a story of the importance of found family (including pets) and community connection.

Not my greatest bookspin year but 8/12 books not too bad. My favorite out of this bunch was Heidi and The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store.

This year I am striving to post more consistently here and to actually participate in #bookspin #doublespin

I have chosen to make my list a list of prompts so as to not be forced to read something I don‘t want to or loose interest in a book because it becomes required reading.

January‘s prompts were Fiancé Pick and Poll Pick.

#bookspin #doublespin is hosted by @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Enjoy!! 3d
BacklistReader @TheAromaofBooks I hop to. I really liked the fist two books in Frostheart series and Philippa Gregory is one of my favorite authors. 3d
TierraWilliams243 That‘s such a smart approach—using prompts gives you flexibility while keeping the fun in reading! Wishing you the best with #bookspin and #doublespin this year. It‘s a great way to stay engaged and discover new reads. Looking forward to seeing what books your prompts lead you to!

BacklistReader @TierraWilliams243 I‘m hoping this works cause I love this challenge but I have yet to complete it. Good luck with your 2025 read‘s hopefully there are more good ones than not so good ones. 3d

I listened to this middle grade book over the course of the day. It was ok, with plenty of references to Harry Potter (Vivian‘s favorite books), Dungeons & Dragons (the characters play B&B), and some other fantasy stories, but there‘s nothing that really pulled me into this specific world with these characters.

KadaGul I feel ya @Daisey 🥶🥶🥶. Luthien looks👀 happy being out. #Brrrr2025 4d
Daisey @KadaGul It took Luthien a few minutes to acclimate to the temperature and to realize she needed to watch for the drifts that were bigger than her, but after that she was so happy to run. 3d

This book had me ugly crying but with happiness at the end. I borrowed it from the school library where I work. Such an important book for children to show them empathy and respect for the animal world. It‘s heartbreaking because a lot of it is true.

Yelchin's memory tale of being a child behind the Iron Curtain is beautiful but harrowing as he navigates the everyday experiences of growing up, along with a crushing regimen of state surveillance, old family secrets, vicious antisemitism, and pressure from his parents to excel so that he may one day escape his circumstances. His art is his solace, and the illustrations throughout are gorgeous and interspersed creatively among the text.

Ground Zero | Alan Gratz

Pickpick

Ground Zero, created by Alan Gratz follows two parallel stories that is framed around the 9/11 attack during and after the incident. In 2001, a young boy named Brandon is trapped within the World Trade Center, also known as the Twin Towers, after the terrorist attack happened and tries to survive. In 2019, an Afghan girl named Reshima faces consequences on the ongoing war in Afghanistan from the result of 9/11. Through both characters experiences,

elijah.reibin the book follows the theme terrorism, survival, war, and the risk of their own lives through global conflict. Both characters show how even in tough situations, the only way to survive is to face conflicts, and I highly recommended this book if you like how the main character struggles to overcome obstacles to keep themselves alive. In the photo, it has the recharge of the twin towers, but the symbol throughout the book is the dust on the (edited) 6d
elijah.reibin front of the page. Dust represents the aftermath of the destruction from the twin towers and the collapse of Afghanistan. The violence from Brandon‘s point of view represents the immediate chaos and the loss of purity, while Reshima‘s view on cruelty signifies the ongoing suffering and instability in her world after the 9/11 attack. Throughout the book, dust is the reminder of how the actions of one‘s enemies can affect the individual and society, 6d
elijah.reibin which lets us think of the outcome when violence can become a far-reaching problem. 6d
