Cuilin I may be in the minority here, but I‘m loving this book. It‘s like looking at a huge pastoral painted masterpiece and seeing all the details. 2d

Bookwormjillk @Cuilin I actually don‘t mind it but I think it would be better read in chunks or all at once. To me chapter a day is kind of weird for a book like this. 2d
dabbe I did love reading the songs today. They were like ballads--or maybe they were actually ballads. 😂 2d
mcctrish It‘s just a lot of words setting the scene for an episode of All Creatures Great and Small imo and I‘d like it to start already 2d
willaful @dabbe It's definitely ballads! I'm interested in folk music, so I enjoyed this chapter. I recognized a few of these because they made it to Appalachia and Jean Ritchie sang them. 2d
Bookwormjillk I was trying to figure out the tunes for each one but in my mind they all sounded like Chumbawumba. 2d
dabbe @willaful 🤩🤗🤩 2d

Bklover @Cuilin The way this is written reminds me of the early Little House books minus any drama. The difference being the target audience. 2d
willaful @Bookwormjillk Here's a bit of Jean Ritchie singing Lord Lovell: https://folkways.si.edu/jean-ritchie/lord-lovel/american-folk-old-time-world/mus...

And here's a version of “False Sir John“: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAT5mDCwKpE

KAO I enjoyed some of the songs that I found on YouTube—especially “The Outlandish Knight”! https://youtu.be/bq6RldgW7NQ?si=bX_O2D6mjk1HasWB (edited) 2d
KAO @Cuilin I‘m with you! I‘m enjoying the book so far (though I‘m not usually so patient with long descriptions), and the word “pastoral” seems perfect. Maybe it‘s just what my anxious mind needs right now! 2d
Cuilin @KAO exactly, it‘s so relaxing. 1d
julieclair @Cuilin I love your perspective! I think I need to change the lens through which I have been viewing this book. 4h
