Cinfhen I haven‘t read her before…what else do u recommend ??? 2y
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen I've read 2 others by her - A is for Arsenic (about Agatha Christie and the poisons she uses in her novels) and Death by Shakespeare (about his methods of killing his characters). There's also books about vampires, James Bond, scientific molecules and elements, but I haven't read them yet! 2y
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen the James Bond and Molecule ones aren't available in paperback yet. 2y

Why did I pick up this obscure read? Well, it's my #MakeYourOwnPrompt prompt for #Booked2022 "Written by someone with whom you've shared a meal"

Author Doug Walsh is my step-cousin (is that even a thing?) and while he is a few years older and we're not close, having spent a few Thanksgiving meals together as teens was the perfect excuse to push his debut fiction novel to the top of my list. For the sake of honesty, I'll tell you, ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick my dear Littens, I didn't love it. The premise, writing, and descriptions were good. The details of the biking trip are authentic, inspired by the author's own around the world biking trip with his wife. The narrator has an annoying voice for Kara but was fine with the men. Edward was not a likeable character, at all, and he's someone I should be rooting for in the end. I wasn't. The bickering between Edward & Kara hindered their enjoyment ⬇️ 2y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick of the trip for longer than I'd have liked. The characters who find themselves in another time, though interesting, didn't seem to fit into the story until much later, so most of those scenes felt jarring. One particular guy, a villain of sorts, was a total blowhard douche bag & felt way over the top. Overall, this was a low pick. Interesting enough, but not anything I'd read again or press into someone's hand as a must read. Sorry Doug!⬇️ 2y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I hope I'm not shunned from sharing a meal and a pint in the PNW sometime in the future.

@4thHouseontheLeft @BarbaratheBibliophage @Cinfhen - July #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks - #52Books #AnIndieRead - #Pop22 #ABookWhoseTitleBeginsWithTheLastLetterOfYourPreviousRead which was The Flight Attendant on audio and I didn't even plan it. Funny how that works out.
2y
Cinfhen Hahaha!! Love the full and honest review!!!! Too bad it wasn‘t fabulous but nice that you saw it through to the end…I might have bailed 😊😜 2y
TheAromaofBooks It's hard to read things written by people you know, I think 😂 My brother is writing a book and keeps having me read various sections of it and it's hard to give opinions without crushing his excitement!! 2y

34/22 finished this one whilst being hit on the head with cars being rolled down my hammock 😂

I was much more moved by this slim book than I thought I would be. It was bananas, yes, but it was also poignant, intriguing, funny, sad, and very clever. Chile is not a country I know that much about but this book gave me an abstract flavor. I highly recommend 4.5⭐️ #booked2022 #makeyourownprompt & first book of #192025 challenge #2014

Cinfhen I‘m looking forward to reading this one!! Glad you weren‘t knocked unconscious 😉 2y
Librarybelle Great review! 2y
rockpools That sounds like the ONLY way to read this book! 🚗 👦 And I loved your review. 2y

My last June book is done…

Hist-fic about an Italian immigrant to England in late Victorian era➡️WWI. Not badly written, and at first I liked the mc a lot, but I grew to loathe him. 😬

Having read the whole thing, I have no clue who the woman on the cover is supposed to be, which is annoying.

This was my #MakeYourOwnPrompt book for #Booked2022, and the prompt I made was ‘oldest NetGalley to read. I‘ve had it for almost 3 years. 😂

⭐️⭐️1/2

Clare-Dragonfly Wow… neither your cover nor the one Litsy has for the listing give any indication that this book is about a man. 😂 2y
sprainedbrain @Clare-Dragonfly I‘m still scratching my head. 😅 2y

This has languished on my Audible shelf forever. So I turned it into a prompt for Kiss Your Mate Day. For me, choosing a romance is a **hard** prompt to complete, despite 27 years of happy marriage. So this one, with its topical nature fit the bill well. The MC is a Vietnam vet with trauma who helps an undocumented family and reconnects with a lost love.

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Thanks. All we need to do for 2023 is collect the prompts our participants have come up with for this prompt. Easy peasy!! 🤣🤣🤣 (edited) 2y

So for #booked2022 #makeyourownprompt I will be using the prompt “weirdest Litsy review that made you read a book”. Thank you @rockpools for inspiring my prompt 😂 I hope it lives up to your one sentence review!

rockpools 😂😂😂😂 That‘s so funny! I feel very flattered. And more than a little nervous now. I do hope you like it! 2y
Cinfhen Ohhhh, I can‘t wait to hear your thoughts on this one! And I love your prompt idea!!! 2y

Well, that was an experience.

That‘s it. That‘s my review.

Think I‘ll use this for #Booked2022 #MakeYourOwnPrompt, the prompt either being ‘What the flip was that?!‘ Or ‘Like nothing you‘ve read before‘.

I should add, I did come away from this smiling. It‘s highly entertaining, although what he has to say can be quite cutting. Possibly.

BarbaraTheBibliophage I LOVE that prompt idea!! 3y
TrishB Best review. 3y

Cinfhen Agreed @Ruthiella @BarbaraTheBibliophage @TrishB This was the BEST review followed by the BEST prompt idea!!! Well done, Rachel!! Now I need to decide if I‘m ready to read this book!?!!! 3y
rockpools @TrishB 🤣🤣 Thanks. You might actually like (as in not hate) this one. Just pretend it‘s poetry. Much on the Chilean education system as experienced by people of our age. I‘m really selling it here 😂😂 3y
rockpools @Ruthiella @BarbaraTheBibliophage I completely can‘t imagine what I‘d read if that was a prompt 🤣🤣 3y
rockpools @Cinfhen Morning Cindy! It‘s VERY short, with even fewer words in - and it‘s not ‘Difficult‘ or ‘Challenging‘ - it just requires you to put a bit of work in and read it differently. It made me laugh. 3y
Cinfhen Im VERY intrigued!!! Off to search for it xxx Thanks, Rachel!! Hope you‘re having a lovely day xx 3y
Magpiegem That is the most intriguing review and I must now immediately find and read it 😂 bravo! 3y

I've chosen bks set in the pandemic with this thriller set as Dublin goes into lockdown in March 2022 and two people meet, form an attachment + move in together but something doesn't feel right, which one is deceiving the other. A very enjoyable page turner and tackles that strange period well.

Cinfhen This was a cool pandemic thriller!! Love your creativity 😷 3y
