pickAt first I found this really daunting because there was YET ANOTHER format/POV shift… and Kay had yet another job in another location… but the POV back to strictly Kay was welcome, as circular & obsessive as her thoughts are.
All the familiar faces are there, along with a character from Kay‘s past. She comes “home” to Cambridge after a fellowship & finds that she has lost her grip on the day to day operations & no one had the guts to tell her.

pickI am liking that the series is heading now back into the crime investigation as the focus. Ending seemed like a bit of a rush job, but it was good.
pickKay Scarpetta never disappoints! This one was about murder by microwave (not a spoioer) - very interesting.
pickAfter not been psyched about the last 4 (4!) installments & debating if I was going to continue the series this seemed to get us back on track. Yet another location but: The POV jumps weren‘t as jarring, we focussed on the case MORE than the interpersonal drama (which there was still plenty), Scarpetta focussed on her work instead of being up Lucy‘s behind &Marino had to deal with his issues.
Actually excited to see where they go from here.

It was more intriguing than the last couple, they have yet again randomly switched locales, things get more serious in Kay‘s relationship &Marino hits rock bottom.
The murder was in the backseat to the continuing Dr Self drama & Marino‘s meltdown, I wish it would get back to more of the investigation vs character interactions.
so-so(1991) Second in Cornwell's series featuring medical examiner Kay Scarpetta. The mystery is okay, but Kay's police partner is a homophobic bigot with a heart of gold, which I guess you could get away with in 1991 but is now just .... no. I understand the author herself came out in the 2000s, so I'm curious about her motivation for writing such a character as a hero, but not curious enough to read another.
pickScarpetta almost seems likeable. Don‘t get me wrong, I love the character but she is trying.
