Pickpick

I greatly enjoyed this book. Some of this information was absolutely revolutionary to me. Some of it I already knew, but he took those a step or more - further than I dared take them previously - to their logical end. There is nothing shocking about this book, honestly.

GingerAntics If one has thought critically about all the stories one has been told as a child and compared them with the actions of the story tellers, this falls right in line with what you already know, but adds more to broaden that understanding. I can definitely see this as a conversation starter for the open minded, and would gladly read it again with a good group. 11mo

This is, of course, assuming organized religion HAS a conscience, which we all know they do not.

So I‘m cleaning old files off my iPad. Like 6 rounds of LMPBC notes. And I found the above “poem”. I think it was for #Scarathlon in 2018. Maybe a haiku challenge? Anyone remember? @StayCurious @Clwojick

Clwojick The first Scarathlon was in 2019, so I‘m not sure what this was for. Maybe #Screamathon? 3y
LibrarianRyan @Clwojick maybe. Who know. 3y

Fair point. If ignorance is a constant, there is no hope for ever being anything other than ignorant.

Graywacke Hmm. Timely 5y
GingerAntics @Graywacke isn‘t it? I really wish more people would give this more thought. Then again, those that really need to give this thought are the ignorant ones and their ignorance extends to their ignorance. They tend to think of themselves as highly intelligent. 5y

This book has been sitting sadly on the shelf for a while. Best of 2011 🤦‍♀️

A member of a reclusive family who lives in the mountains starts up a friendship with a teenager from town. Meanwhile the teenagers little sister starts up a friendship with the lady who owns the antique shop. I don‘t know where this is going but trigger warnings for child sexual abuse early on.

This was inspired by a real family from Nova Scotia (beware googling)

CoverToCoverGirl I thought it was well written - a disturbing but good read.. the true story version has been on my shelf for awhile just can‘t bring myself to read it yet (edited) 5y

This is so true it‘s not even funny. I feel like I‘m surrounded by people who think they have all the answers (because they‘re all in the bible 🙄) and I think, have you ever questioned that, thought critically about what you‘re saying? Blind faith is useless.

GingerAntics This genuinely makes me think of the debate between Bill Nye and a creationist. When asked what would make them change their stance, Bill said “a single shred of evidence” while the creationist said “nothing.” Now if you really believe in god, the answer should be “god comes and tells me himself that I‘m wrong.” If you‘re genuinely after the truth, the answer can never, ever be “nothing.” 6y
Weaponxgirl I always think that if you stop being curious about the world and things you don‘t know or understand then you have stopped growing as a person. Those people are so stunted 6y
GingerAntics @Weaponxgirl I completely agree. I spent so much time wanting to be accepted by these people and they always wanted me to stop asking questions, but why? What were they so afraid I would discover? That they were wrong? 6y
