I loved this book. Since 1983, there are laws that prohibit humans from killing vampyres. In this world vampyres are a marginalized group living in colonies next to human cities but can never go to school or work a job. In a remote Alaskan town a boy is found dead and everyone is just itching for an excuse to cull a colony. Enter very even keeled, government agent Barbara. This is dark, everyone in the town has secrets. The twists! There is 👇🏼

Reggie an in between side story told in italics and at every turn I rolled my eyes and thought, pfffff I know what‘s going on. And at every turn I was wrong! lol so good. Pick!!! (edited) 2w

Reggie @Rissreads I know. I watch these shorts that talk about what scares scientists. One is where people overpopulate the world. Well then this one scientist was like I don‘t think that will happen. He did this experiment where he introduced these mice into an environment of abundance. They grew their population but then formed groups and had outsiders that they fed off of and fought each other. The population topped out at 2300 when there was enough 2w

Vampire murder mystery.

Forget everything you think you know about vampires as in this world it is all wrong.

When a young boy is murdered in small town Alaska it looks like a straightforward vampire attack but who really killed the boy and why.

Enter Barbara a detective sympathetic to Vampires and the town is up in arms.

Definitely set up for a sequel and I hope it is soon as I want to get back to Barbara‘s world.

Tudor‘s latest is a bit of a departure, mingling a traditional #SerialKillerThriller with a #vampire story but it really works—& leaves a set-up for a sequel! Barbara Atkins works for the FBI devoted to vampyr killings & is sent to the remote ex-mining town of Deadhart, AK where history seems to be repeating itself after a teenager seems to be the victim of a vampyr. The isolated community holds secrets, & despite slow pacing, finishes strong!

Breanne1 I immediately thought of the X-files 😂 4w
TorieStorieS @Breanne1 Hahaha! That‘s what the character limitations causes!! This is more like a fantasy alternate universe where the vampyrs are discriminated against than an X Files sort of thriller! 4w
BookWrym Just finished this and I loved it 2w
TorieStorieS @Bookwyrm I really hope that a sequel comes out soon!! 🤞 2w

Book 34📚 4⭐️

1 of 6 of my most anticipated thrillers for this year and what a way to start!✨

In a world where vampyrs are real and have laws with the human world. What happens when they are accused of murdering a teen? Do you cull the whole colony?

Ooo I hope there is a sequel to this one cause that epilogue is too good!

Love a good vampire story! This one even has a scene straight out of Salem‘s Lot 🧛‍♂️
Definitely set up for a sequel.

Oh my dear god. This is such a bizarre novel. C. J. Tudor has written another scary as hell thriller and I love it. Vampyrs live among us. They live in Colonies and all is definitely not well. A horrible history exists between them and humans and it is an uneasy coexistence, to say the least. Does the end of this book hint at a sequel? I dearly hope so. Barbara Atkins is a force to be reckoned with. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In a modern world of protecting vampyre colonies since 1983, it‘s best a human avoid drinking a vampyre‘s blood if bitten. But vampyres have rules too…stick with animal blood, don‘t kill other vampyres, don‘t turn a child, be prepared to live for centuries and die for decades. You‘ll put your entire colony at risk should you murder a human and a human anthropologist of vampyres (the MC) authorizes the culling of your entire community. 👇

marleed Also religious fundamentalists have opinions because of course they do. …I‘m forever entertained reading vampire rules rewritten when the modern day is touched by magical realism. This epilogue is a great setup for the MC (picture a 51-yo Francis McDormand) taking her detective forensic vampyre anthropology skills to the next location where vampyres and humans might need her fair-minded approach to the next situation. 2mo

I‘ve read C. J Tudor‘s thrillers and I loved them and this book was no exception. This was a thriller mixed with vampires and I couldn‘t get enough. Once I started reading this book I just flew through it.

I definitely look forward to more books from this author and I also need to read some of her previous novels.

Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this novel.

marleed I just finished this, too! I‘m so curious to know if this will be a series. 2mo
NikkiKey94 @marleed yes! Me too! I think it definitely could be and I would be interested to read more! 2mo
