The King of Torts | John Grisham

Pickpick

This is full of shady high-power lawyers, pharmaceutical companies, and stock investors making as many millions as possible while a bad drug is exposed, regardless of the impact a drug has to a patient. I wanted to be done - gratuitous spending and money-grabbing is all kinds of ick. Yet, I was surprising intrigued by Washington DC public defender Clay pulled into that world and finding his way out.

marleed @TheAromaofBooks It cracks me up how often ‘author‘s canon‘ is picked as either my #BS or #DS. I believe I have 6 more JG books to go from his backlog as well as keeping up with newly published books before I will have read or reread his entire canon since my 2018 starting point. 1w
TheAromaofBooks The BookSpin fates REALLY want you to read more John Grisham 😂 1w

marleed @TheAromaofBooks Indeed! It all started when all my sisters gathered and Sister2‘s home for a reunion of sorts. Sister2 had a stack of JG paperbacks in her donation bin. I noted I liked JG books. Sister1 asked which ones, and I drew a complete blank on the title or specific story of any JG read. I silently decided then/there to read/reread his canon. Sister1 has sadly passed away, but I‘m sticking to my JG goal! 1w

I very much enjoyed seeing behind the legal profession‘s curtain🥸 I find it all very fascinating, always have. The verbal sparring etc… between the Plaintiff & Defence counsels had me LOL several times🤣 Definitely not my last Grisham or legal thriller📚🤓

CoverToCoverGirl I really enjoy Grisham! 5mo
DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl ❤️‍🔥I‘ve also been enjoying them! 5mo

Mehso-so

(1994) Unpopular opinion, but it didn't work for me: too slow, too bloated, too many subplots that go nowhere. It's a legal drama following the legal maneuvers of an unpleasant old bigot and his lawyer grandson who represents him, as they await his execution for a terrorist bombing. It's an extended meditation on Southern history and on the death penalty.Grisham is against it. So am I and for similar reasons, but I just found the book exhausting

swynn Also: this was the bestselling book in the U.S. in 1994, and the final book in my Bestseller challenge, which has covered 100 years of American bestsellers, beginning with Ian McClaren's "Beside the Bonnie Brier Bush" (1895) and ending with "The Chamber." 8mo
ChaoticMissAdventures Congratulations on your challenge!! I remember enjoying this when it came out, but I was also obsessed with Grisham in general and was maybe 16, so my ideas of a good book were quite different! 8mo
Ruthiella Wow! Impressive. 👏👏👏 How long has it taken you to complete the challenge? 8mo

swynn @ChaoticMissAdventures Or you might still like it -- it may just be a mismatch of book, reader, and moment. 8mo
swynn @Ruthiella Nearly ten years: I read "Beside the Bonnie Brier Bush" in January 2015 8mo

The decision to bomb the office of the radical Jew lawyer was reached with relative ease.

It was a really great story. I was disappointed with the ending, but only because it didn‘t tie everything up perfectly. It‘s a very well-written and likely ending. There were a few characters I was left wondering about.

I picked this up on a whim at a habitat for humanity down in Pittsboro, North Carolina a couple years back and honestly did not expect to like it. A bit simple throughout but I couldn‘t help getting vested in the characters and the story as a whole. I enjoyed the pieces of Italian history, architecture, and opera throughout and I would say overall that this was a fun and enjoyable read.

Back in the day, I devoured all of John Grisham‘s legal thrillers, so this was a reread. Still enjoyed it!
