This was a lovely, informative read about Harvey Milk and the origin of the rainbow flag as a symbol for the pride movement. I wish it would have gone into what each color on the flag represents but otherwise it was a great introduction for kids. It also inspired me to finally watch the movie Milk with Sean Penn, which was amazing btw

This was on my Litsy tbr, but I don‘t remember who recommended it. This is only a 3 hr audiobook & is written for YA. I just wanted to know the basics of the Stonewall riots, & it provides that along with a good description of life in Greenwich Village at that time. Also goes on to talk about the AIDS epidemic & LGBTQIA+ activism.

4 ⭐This picture book is a history of the man who helped make the 1963 March On Washington the event it was. Bayard Rustin was a Black gay man who put his heart into peaceful protest. He had learned from Gandhi that peaceful protest was the only real way to get your voice heard, and to make things happen. He was successful and the March On Washington was a success. He‘s a little-known player in this big event that I am happy now gets his own stage.

Zoes_Human Ooooo very cool to see him getting more attention! 1y
LibrarianRyan @Zoes_Human yes. I love the plethora of biographies for kids that are coming out. And that they are about people not normally taught in schools. 1y

KathyWheeler I have only been to one once, and it was an accident. In 1992, I did not know anything about Pride parades. I was in San Francisco for the American Library Association conference and was supposed to meet my sister downtown. It took us forever to cross the street to meet up because of the huge Pride parade! It was fun though. 1y

In this book three seemingly separate storylines come together to help start a discussion about book censorship and how early young people can handle LGTBQ+ content.

It is very slow at work right now so I‘m going to start this and see how far I get before anyone else enters the building.
