Great quotes. First, I love that the main character Angel, the cake maker, is going through the “change.” The doctor asked Angel if she‘s flashing! Poor Angel she‘s flashing all the time. I feel for her!

And second, don‘t you just love the name Dr Rejoice?

Rwanda: À la poursuite des génocidaires | Thomas Zribi, Damien Roudeau

This is a graphic non-fiction book about a couple who hunt down criminals responsible for the Rwandan genocide and bring them to justice. A number of them have been living normal lives in France and it's only in the last few years that tribunals picked up pace. Proving beyond reasonable doubt that they're guilty is difficult however, because witnesses and proofs have disappeared.

Rome turns 2778 years old on April 21. Not part of Italy‘s Jubilee celebrations but definitely part of #foodandlit‘s all year celebration of all things Italian. #Jubilee. Throw a Roman birthday party this Monday!

Obviously this is a hard book to read. I‘m just not in the right head space right now to read it. So I‘m going to mark it unread rather than bailed (it doesn‘t deserve a bad rating because I‘m not up to reading it now). I need something a lot lighter. So I‘ll find another book that might work better for me now. #Rwanda #foodandlit @Catsandbooks

IriDas Understandable. 1d
kspenmoll I get it. I am avoiding my Rowanda choice at the moment as well - maybe next week?! 1d
ChaoticMissAdventures I feel a big shift in my reading happening. I cannot handle anything genocidal or dystopian right now. It is just too much. 23h
GingerAntics It does sound like a great book, but it‘s definitely requires the right head space. 22h
dabbe That's why I've been reading a lot of detective stories lately. 💙🩵💙 22h

This was really a beautiful read and I‘m so glad I chose it for Rwanda.
It‘s the story of a family told between Immaculata and her daughter Blanche, about their life and relationships before, during and after the Rwandan genocide and what family, home and belonging means. I made a Rwandan beef stew that I found online and it was delish 😋 #foodandlit

Texreader I‘m struggling to find a food for me that I might like. That looks yummy so I‘ll try to Google it. Also book, stacked! 1d

Today, I made igitoki, a delicious green plantain, vegetable and peanut stew. Will definitely make again! It's easy, vegetarian and perfect when it's cold outside.

I‘ve read a lot about this genocidal massacre but I didn‘t know that there were warnings ahead of time. I‘ve barely started this book and it‘s already overwhelming

And to finish the quote above, the Hutus who sympathized with the Tutsis were among the first murdered

DGRachel I tried to read it years ago and just couldn‘t. I had to put it down. I keep thinking I want to try again, but I don‘t know if I can. 3d

Three Weeks in December | Audrey Schulman

Pickpick

In 1899, Jeremy is in Rwanda overseeing building a railroad when two lions begin killing the workers (like the Ghost and the Darkness if you‘ve seen the movie or heard about the true story). In 2000, Max, a young woman with Aspbergers, is looking for a plant that could be the basis for a new life-saving drug in the mountains of Rwanda. Their stories are told alternately. And how they are intertwined will come as a complete surprise at the end ⬇️

Texreader and in just a few words. I was pretty impressed. Both stories are very good, especially Max‘s story for me. The description of how Aspbergers affected her was so eye-opening, as was her botanical knowledge. There are some lovable (but realistic) gorillas 🦍 but also roving soldiers of a warlord threatening the people and the gorillas. In Jeremy‘s story, the descriptions of the lions‘ actions can be gross, but his story is good. Recommended. ⬇️ 3d
