Spare | Prince Harry the Duke of Sussex

Pickpick

I had no preconceived notions other than curiosity before I began this audiobook. I had not been paying attention to all the drama surrounding Harry‘s courtship, wedding and then his ousting, nor did I follow the young brothers during their formative years. So I was just transfixed by Harry‘s story. He truly lived in a gilded cage, forced to remain silent & stoic as he was often mocked and judged by the press & public.👇🏽

Cinfhen His story brought tears to my eyes. The tragic death of his mom deeply affected his entire life leading him to do everything in his power to protect the woman who finally brought him peace. I wish Harry & Meg a lifetime of happiness and hope they can live the rest of their lives out of the spotlight without the scrutiny of public opinion. And I pray the brothers find a way to reconnect. 2y

LeeRHarry Not for me but glad you thought it was worth the read 😊 2y
Cinfhen Fair enough @LeeRHarry 🫶🏼 2y
Leftcoastzen Lovely review! 2y
Cinfhen Thanks @Leftcoastzen - I was surprised by my attachment to this book😁 also using for #Belize #ReadingTheAmericas23 although only briefly mentioned Harry does visit the Island as part of his Royal duties @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB 😜 2y
britt_brooke I don‘t care at all about the royals, but I‘m definitely reading this out of curiosity, and because I love a celebrity memoir. I‘m currently 421 on the library wait list. 😅 Fortunately, that‘s only 8 weeks! 2y
Cinfhen I was amazed how riveted I was to Harry‘s story @britt_brooke DEFINITELY go audio!!!!! Hearing Harry tell his version of how things went down was impactful. 2y
TheBookHippie I don‘t think people TRULY understand trauma. Especially childhood trauma. I hope they get peace. And maybe the brothers will connect maybe not. I‘m so glad he told his truth may it be healing for him. ♥️ 2y
Cinfhen @TheBookHippie AMEN, sister 🙌🏻 2y
MoonWitch94 @TheBookHippie I was going to say the same thing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 @Cinfhen A lovely review! 2y
AmyG @TheBookHippie I donmt think childhood trauma every leaves you. You just learn to live with it better. 😢 2y
TheBookHippie @MoonWitch94 💜 💜 💜 💜 2y
TheBookHippie @AmyG No. It truly doesn't. I agree 100 percent. We just learn to manage it. 2y
Cinfhen The tragedy of losing his mum and so publicly, shaped his entire life @AmyG @MoonWitch94 he was never given therapy as a child but instead he was shipped off to boarding school within days. It‘s just so sad. I‘m not making excuses for him nor did he, but it was evident that this loss followed him throughout his youth and still haunts him. 2y
MoonWitch94 @Cinfhen I think two things can be true: you can have empathy for a person who has significant childhood trauma that stunted emotional growth, AND still not make excuses for poor behavior. A reason doesn‘t absolve the wrongs, it just makes things more understandable. 2y
Megabooks Really interesting discussion here. I‘m down to 6 weeks wait at the library. Looking forward to reading it. 2y
Librarybelle I am truly undecided if I should read this or not. I‘m curious, but I‘m also way more into the historic royals than contemporary. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y
Bluebird I feel like I‘m the only person in the world with no interest in reading this book. 🙄 However, I‘m very glad everyone is enjoying it! 2y
Cinfhen There are references to past Royals @Librarybelle but it‘s very much Harry‘s story. As someone who‘s not into the Royals I found this audio 💯addictive @Megabooks and ultimately very sad @Bluebird I get why this book may not appeal to everyone but I was happy to hear Harry speak his truth. As I‘m sure William would have a very different story to tell. 2y
Hooked_on_books Sounds like Harry knows what it‘s like for women, being silenced and forced by society to take abuse. I‘ll give this one a try if my library gets it. 2y
Cinfhen I think you‘d enjoy hearing Harry‘s story @Hooked_on_books go audio if you can 2y
mcctrish @britt_brooke that‘s pretty close to my number in the library queue where I am although I‘m pretty sure it said I was months out 🤣🤣 2y
britt_brooke @mcctrish 😂 I‘m lucky I get to tap into the Nashville system (even though I‘m in the burbs) which is huge. Lots of copies! 2y
mcctrish @britt_brooke 10 copies here in London ON so maybe I need to find a bigger market to get a library card at 🤔 2y

Noticed at lunch that all my physical books in progress had a #blackcover and were #nonfiction #firstpersonnarrative books 🤔 Guess there was a theme. 😂

CaliforniaCay Can't wait to hear your thoughts on journal of solitude. It's been sitting on my shelf for a while, haven't read it yet. 6y
