Directed by Hitchcock and written by Steinbeck. Who could ask for anything more? #filmnoir

thegreensofa It might just be me lol, the guy on the left reminds me of a side-profile faceshot of James Conran, from Carpool Karaoke 🎤. But he‘s not that old! 😆 1y
dabbe @thegreensofa OMG, you are right! It looks EXACTLY like him! 🤣🤣🤣 1y

I don‘t usually read screenplays, but one of the members of the Library Friends insisted that I should read this first, and then watch the movie. My husband insists the movie is too dark for me, but I think I can handle the book.

If you are a film buff, you will like this book. Not only will you learn more about the film noir genre, you will also learn all about Hollywood clothing designers. This is a large format book with many photos in each chapter. Even if movie fashion isn‘t your thing, it‘s a fun read. Five stars

The author on Barbara Stanwyck's portrayal of Phyllis Dietrichson: "a greedy, exciting woman avid for sexual kicks but almost certainly frigid."
Not sure if I'd use those words- I love film noir but this was not my favorite film book. But Dietrichson and Mary Astor's Ms. Wonderly of Maltese Falcon are two of my favorite femme fatales.

Reviewsbylola It‘s been way too long since I‘ve seen The Maltese Falcon! I think maybe I bought the book at some point. 🤔 6y
Billypar I own it but also unread. The classic hard-boiled noirs might be one of those rare cases where I'd prefer the films. Or at least I haven't been able to work up enough interest to read them yet! 6y

Palimpsest I love film noir. 6y
Theaelizabet “Not sure if I‘d use those words...” Or even that thought. It‘s been quite awhile since I saw the film, but that wouldn‘t be my takeaway. Interesting. (edited) 6y
Billypar @Theaelizabet Right? I read it a long time ago but I remember it being filled with rambling, lazy analysis- too much just to be chalked up to a poor translation. 6y
Billypar @Palimpsest I haven't seen any in awhile, but I went through a period where I watched so many: lots of good ones. 6y

(Day 23 - #WalkOnTheWildSide)

Nightlife around the world (I kind of see nightlife as wild 😜).

TheBookgeekFrau In the 70s it was! 6y
Crazeedi I was raising 2 children in the 70s, my wild times were at home! The music definitely flowed in my house, loved all of it 6y
gradcat @C.Perone @Crazeedi It absolutely was!! I know it was different for you, Di, but you enjoyed the wild music, I‘ll bet! 6y

I love this series. This one had the old Hollywood movie vibes. Humphrey Bogart's ghost even has an appearance. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series

Wow! What a saga! I‘m entranced by Ruiz‘ wise and beautiful writing style. Yes, it‘s a long story, but its characters captivated me so much, I just kept on reading and reading and reading. Found this well read copy on the 1$ carts that Strand book has outside their shop ❤️. #theshadowofthewind #carlosruizzafon #barcelona #bestseller #newyorktimebestseller #saga #mystery #filmnoir #loveforbooks #strandbooks @strandbookstore
