Yo Ed, #doesyourmotherknow why you are the way that you are? The things he did to her are unimaginable. This sort of thing makes me scared to have kids 🙀 maybe I‘ll just stick with cats... #ABBAinAugust

All of these books made me think #doesyourmotherknow what the hell she‘s doing, because she‘s doing it wrong! #BadMoms

#DoesYourMotherKnow that you and your best friend are plotting to murder her?
This is a fascinating nonfiction look at a (previously hidden) part of mystery author Anne Perry‘s past and at the murder that inspired the film, Heavenly Creatures.

I‘m about halfway through this and today‘s #abbainaugust prompt, #doesyourmotherknow, instantly made me think of the mother/daughter relationship in this book.
Emma is only five, but there is a lot of resentment, anger, and hurt in her relationship with her mother Alice. A lot of Emma‘s behaviors scream autism to me, and it breaks my heart that her mother feels such a lack of connection to her. The picture is of me and Genevieve at her baptism.
#AbbaInAugust Day 30: #DoesYourMotherKnow you‘re calling her mean? The book in its quiet humor and little twists makes one appreciate fully the love between parent and child, regardless of the mean words that blind our sensibilities to the kindest and most heartfelt intentions. “Professionally women...thrived in their crafts, earning good salaries and wages, meriting honor and reputation, and coexisting...with medieval men. ...data is easy to misinterpret because what remains is selectively preserved...inadvertently or intentionally distort(ing) the historical record. “
Interesting context of history.
Susan Green‘s mother dies and her home is left to Susan‘s irresponsible, estranged brother... leaving Susan asking herself and others #doesyourmotherknow what the heck she was doing in her final days when she changed her will?!? In a style not unlike Eleanor Oliphant, the writing had me rooting for Susan and her awkward, unsocial, very practical self and hoping that she finds her path in life. Any fan of Eleanor must read this!!

“You wonder too much about Peyton Place,” said Mike. It‘s just a town, Allison, like any other town. We have our characters, but so does New York and so does every other town and city.”
I think that‘s what I loved about this book - a typical New England town but the author shows us the secrets behind closed doors and how those secrets weave the people in the town together. I now need to read the sequel.
