One last day lecturing in this gorgeous place about the incredible life and art of Federico Garcia Lorca. In working on the opera "Ainadamar", it's been a gift to rediscover Lorca's poetry and plays, and to fangirl nightly about his theatre work with La Barraca. And after the performance? REST! #SeeMoreOpera #DetroitLove

Not book-related, just feeling grateful about spending the day in such a beautiful space. 😍 #DetroitLove #MittenLitten #SeeMoreOpera

JamieArc I got to see The Nutcracker there just before the pandemic hit. Such a beautiful space! 3y

The Lido | Libby Page

Pickpick

This beautiful book is a love story on multiple levels- that of life-long partners, of friends new and old, and love of a community. Mostly it made me reflect on how lucky I am to have my own local lido (pictured here closed for cold weather). Detroit's Brennan Pool opened in the 1920s, and was the site of the US swimming Olympic trials in the 1950s. Now I get to spend my sunny days here, and I'm reminded not to take that for granted.

JamieArc Oooh I didn‘t know about this pool. I loved this book too. It‘s a dream to live near a community pool one day. #mittenlitten (edited) 3y

Finally went to the library for the first time in two years! It felt so good to walk into that gorgeous building; these stamps and stickers are making my day. ♥️📚❤️ #LibraryLove #DetroitPublicLibrary #MittenLitten #DetroitLove

LiteraryinPA What a good feeling! 💗 3y
sharread Wow the Detroit Public Library. Awesome. The last time I was there I was 17. Did you goto the DIA too? 3y
Andrea313 @sharread No, unfortunately, just into the library and on my way! The DIA was one of the first places in Detroit to fully re-open, though, IIRC; I should head over there soon. 3y

I love reading about my #home city, Detroit. The tagged book is my most recent acquisition- examining the important role of the Black church in protest and politics in Detroit. #ForeverNovember #DetroitLove #MittenLitten

JamieArc Thanks for posting! My husband is from Detroit, and his hippy activist dad (we‘re all activists though - so not saying that‘s a bad thing :-) was pastor for a long time at Central United Methodist church (next to the Tiger‘s stadium). Putting this on my list! 4y

Andrea313 @JamieArc Thanks for the recommendation! And how cool about your father in law! I am very aware of the good work Central United Methodist does in the community, and know folks who have been helped out by their health center and food pantry. Love and respect to you, and to all of our fellow activists, hippies and all! 4y

Did you know that #ToniMorrison co-created an opera? She was the librettist for the opera Margaret Garner, which was co-commissioned by my hometown opera company, and which had its world premiere in Detroit. #AugustAuthors #seemoreopera #detroitlove #MittenLitten
