Great insight into leadership and management. I admit I was surprised by how much the author loves working in restaurants. I have never worked in food service but everyone I know who has didn‘t love it and viewed it as a job to pay the bills. This made me see how it could be enjoyable.

It‘s not every day a business book has us gasping, screaming, cheering, and laughing! Unreasonable Hospitality is part business memoir, part leadership manifesto, a mix of hospitality and humanism, management and magic. Guidara took a NYC restaurant from struggling to #1 in the world; here he shares the lessons he learned in those 11 years. This book makes you feel like you‘re part of that team and will leave you nourished and full of ideas!

What an incredible book. I made multiple notes that I‘ll take into my work. I am going to reread an ebook version so I can highlight and absorb more wisdom.

Be Our Guest: Perfecting the art of customer service | The Disney Institute, Theodore Kinni

This felt more like a book-length ad for Disney corporate than a guide to improving customer service, but I found the suggestions about company culture and regional cultures as well as staff support, value, and space to be off-stage so to speak all very validating. The chapter I got the most out of was considering your physical (and digital) space as a form of customer service.

iread2much When I was in hospitals, they sent our higher up‘s to Disney to learn about their work culture, and while I was a lowly new manager, I did appreciate some of what they brought back (but not that they sent the directors for a super cool Disney vacation and not all us managers 😅) 11mo
underground_bks @iread2much one of the best stories in the book is about a nonprofit hospital and the changes they made after attending the Disney Institute! 11mo
iread2much @underground_bks OMG, that‘s probably my old hospital! To be fair, it was the best hospital I worked at, and one of the best jobs I‘ve worked at period, and it did get better after they went to Disney 😂 11mo
underground_bks @iread2much now I feel bad for giving it a so-so! It‘s a pick now 😅😂 (edited) 11mo

#SummerEndReadathon #RushAThon

Read for one of the work leadership foundations that I facilitate. This is a quick & engaging read about customer service & making magical guest experiences via Disney Institute. I enjoyed it as did our cohort, finding plenty of the processes & ideas to be applicable to our own/any company. It‘s also a good glimpse into the behind-the-scenes at Disney theme parks & movie making which is interesting & nostalgic. ✨

CuriousG Thanks @ShelleyBooksie - he's my shadow so he makes it into a lot of my pics 😄 2y
CuriousG @Hooked_on_books That's my boy Meelo...he seems to know he's cute and uses it as a way to try and get away with poor listening skills. Lol 2y
Hooked_on_books Yeah, I have one of those with poor/selective listening skills. 🙄 She‘s proven repeatedly that she can be very disciplined (when she wants something), so I know she‘s just being willful. But me love them warts and all! (edited) 2y
CuriousG @Hooked_on_books That is Meelo exactly! He can execute some very complicated commands like nothing...when he decides it is worth it 😄 Dogs are worth it though ❤️🐕 2y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Michelli excels at revealing how vital caring for your employees at the highest level is in order to care for the world's most discerning guests.
This book makes me want to stay at a Ritz! It even makes working there appealing.
Caring for others, what a novel business model.
Finished this #nonfiction #business book at another great #coffee ☕️ shop, Junto.
