Somehow this novel still seems very relevant 50+ years after its first publication. I believe that speaks to the truth of the story & writing. Told through a male perspective, we get a glimpse of a 1950‘s marriage that is fracturing. Behind the beautiful suburban facades of pastel homes live ugly secrets. I really enjoyed both print and audio. #Classics2020 #BookClubWorthy
I finally got to one of the rereads I‘ve been planning for #classics2020. This one got pushed to the front because I figured it was a good fit for #eccentricMC for #booked2020
I didn‘t love this one as much as the first time I read it but it‘s still my favorite Wharton. I felt like this time I appreciated Ellen Olenska more, and that ending—idk why but it just gets me every time!
It‘s a postal miracle!!!! This book showed up today, even though it was shipped May 12. Super excited 🥳
I‘m a day late for #bookreport
I decided to do a roundup for the first half of 2020. What a wild ride its been.
I hit 50% of my Goodreads goal yesterday, so a few days later than I would have liked, but such is life.
I‘m over halfway through my goal of 24 classics this year. I‘ve read 12 on my own and an additional 3 with my kids, for a total of 15 classics. #classics2020. I‘m listing my top three classics I‘ve read in 2020 above.
I loved this audio narration. Jeremy Irons was perfect. Such beautiful writing for such a horrible story. I found myself comparing him to Hannibal Lector. While my attention waned at the end overall a great novel. I understand why it's a classic. #classics #classics2020
Alice looks how I feel after finally finishing this book! I have to say, I didn't love it. While I enjoyed some of the character story lines I found most of the writing tedious and slightly rambling. I can appreciate it as a classic but not one of my favourites. #classics2020 #catsoflitsy #lesmiserables #readlesmis2020
