I do understand! I was casually listening to my audiobook today when this line caught my attention. I had to find the passage in Serial Reader and share. I never would have caught this allusion without the experience of reading #Clarissa.

#1001books #SerialReader

Ruthiella I love it when that happens! 3mo
Daisey @Ruthiella Yes! It also sometimes makes me wonder just how many allusions I‘m missing too. 3mo

#Wondrouswednesday Thanks for tag @Eggs @TheSpineView ! I was out of town Wednesday so a day late.

1) I ❤️ history so it‘s hard to go wrong with most any time period
2) Starter Villain ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
3) Tagged, 7th longest book in English according to:

Amiable #Clarissa is number 1! Wow, now the bragging rights are even bigger and braggier, @Lcsmcat @BarbaraJean 😀 (edited) 10mo

“Fashionably late” to the party—thanks for the tag, @GinaKButler !

1. I have an affinity for the Revolutionary War-era and early America.
2. First read of 2024 was a biography of P.T. Barnum
3. I‘ve read most of the biggies: War and Peace, Les Mis, A Suitable Boy. But I think “Clarissa,” which I read last year with the esteemed #Clarissa group, beats them all at circa 1,800 pages.

#wondrouswednesday

GinaKButler I think I‘m going to tackle Clarissa next year. 🫣 10mo
Amiable @GinaKButler I wouldn't read it again, but I'm glad I did it! I liked it better than “Les Mis,“ if that matters. 😃 10mo
Amiable @GinaKButler @Texreader just posted a link that says “Clarissa” is the longest book in the English language! As a fellow committed chunkster, you know you‘ve got to do it now. 😀 10mo

Texreader @Amiable The question I have…is it worth it? Is it a high pick? I‘ve never even heard of it. But I do love my chunksters… 10mo
GinaKButler @Amiable I don‘t know if that‘s a glowing review. Les Mis was definitely not a favorite…😂 10mo
Amiable @GinaKButler Ha ha, I know! That‘s why I threw “Les Mis” into the mix. 😄 Also, have you read this one? I adored it: (edited) 10mo
Amiable @Texreader Is it a “high” pick? I‘d say no. Was it worth it, though? Yes, IMO. For a number of reasons —not the least of which are the bragging rights when you finally finish. 😀 Reading it with the #Clarissa group added a wonderful dimension to the experience— I‘d suggest a buddy read if you do decide to tackle it. 10mo
Texreader @Amiable Very helpful. I‘ll check it out and see if I might be able to stick with it. You‘re the best. Thanks!! 10mo
Amiable @Texreader Check with @Lcsmcat —she created a schedule for us last year that was very manageable. It was basically 50 pages per week, if I recall. We started it in January and completed it in October with group chats every Saturday. I thought that was very helpful in keeping the momentum going. 10mo
Lcsmcat @Texreader If you want the schedule we used last year (and don‘t want to scroll through a years worth of #clarissa tags) send me your email address to mischalynx at msn dot com and I‘ll send it to you. I‘m not sure if it was better the way we did it , in small chunks with breaks, or if powering through would be better. But take friends - it can get dark in there. 😂 10mo

2023 was an interesting reading year. #Clarissa was the longest book and greatest challenge of the year, and Don Quixote was plenty long as well. I don‘t really do simply favorites, instead also considering the books that I think will be the most memorable. As of this moment, these are those books of 2023 for me.

Readerann I got behind on the Clarissa year-long group read, then couldn‘t catch up (I‘m at 70%). Congrats on finishing! 👏 It‘s SO long. 😩 11mo
Daisey @Readerann So long! I don‘t know that I would have made it if I hadn‘t forced myself to mostly stick to the schedule and participated in some discussion with other readers. It‘s definitely one of the toughest to finish classics I‘ve read. 11mo
merelybookish Impressive dent on 1001 books challenge! 11mo
Daisey @merelybookish Thanks! Yes, this is the most I‘ve managed to finish in a year so far. 11mo

I completed 45 books from the #1001books list this year for an updated total of 253 out of 1,318!

A few were rereads but from long enough ago that I didn‘t have dates in Goodreads. As usual, there were books I just pushed through to finish as well as fantastic reads.

Several were read for the #Reading1001 group, including 13 for #TBRTakedown. Many others were read with or for various readalong groups and challenges listed in the comments.

And that‘s a wrap on 2023! I‘m particularly tickled by the productive reading month that was October, especially since that was the month we finally finished the #Clarissa challenge! It‘s a buddy read that will live in infamy. 😀
