#GiftswapSurvey
1. Fairly eclectic, but frequently character driven, lyrical, and/or British.
2. In what genre? ? I can't pick just one!
3. Anything with a Fabio on the cover or "shopaholic" in the title, and similar. But also poorly researched/written/edited books in whatever genre.
4. Ergodic maybe? Or more punk sub genres?
5. ? Let's go with 'Lair of the White Worm'. At least for this year. ? See #WormyBuddyread for details.

Leniverse Scrolled through the hashtag to see who hasn't done this (or at least hasn't used the hashtag). So I tag @Sarah83 @julesG @TrishB @saresmoore 7y
julesG Thanks for the tag. Well then, I'll try my best. 😉 7y

I wanted to review it at the end of October but honestly I was glad to have had finished it! So much #mongooselove to the entire #wormybuddyread group as it seems from their reviews we were all in the same boat.
Besides the racism displayed, there were moments while reading this that felt like Stoker lost his idea of execution on the plot which is a shame considering his other works.

Worst of the month (by a country mile!) was the #wormybuddyread title that I chose! Apologies to those who endured this sexist, racist book with me #mongooselove Thanks to those who joined me too - it was a tough month IRL and the #buddyread helped immensely ❤️ (I can't talk about my fav of the month because it's #topsecret for #TheCanadianTour #Canadagoespostal)

batsy Much #mongooselove to you and wormy buddy readers 😁 7y
BookishTrish Awww thanks @batsy 7y
rabbitprincess Haha no worries! I was inordinately proud of myself for finally managing to read a "scary" book ?? 7y

The overriding feeling I got from this book was of abridgment, like this was a drastically trimmed version of a longer, possibly more coherent story. And yet Stoker found time to add a character whose main role seemed to be for others to be racist about 😐 Not recommended for recreational reading. Maybe as part of a study on the evolution of the horror novel?

rabbitprincess All this said, I appreciate having shared the #wormybuddyread with @BookishTrish et al., and now I KNOW the movie has to be better than the book (not least because of Peter Capaldi 😍😍😍). 7y
DebinHawaii Hah! Yes we definitely have similar feelings about the book. 😆👍 7y

I implied I was bailing from this book for #wormybuddyread but it was my first time with Serial Reader & issues kept coming & I had to see it through-finishing up yesterday. Not much to say other than it's just really bad--shallowly written plot & characters & not at all scary unless you're a mongoose.😱The racism & sexism are downers. The movie is on Showtime & I plan to rewatch it. It's different than the book & also bad-but in a campy fun way.

DebinHawaii @BookishTrish Even though I panned it, thanks for picking it. It introduced me to using Serial Reader which I had been meaning to try and now I can say I've read it! 😆👍 7y
batsy Serial Reader is great! FYI there's also the option of cancelling a subscription under "Settings" for each story; they stop sending issues and the story is removed from your list. 7y
rabbitprincess Your review sums up my experience as well. And yes, isn't Serial Reader great? I'm using it to read Mansfield Park and love it! 7y

DebinHawaii @batsy I did see that option and considered it but I did want to see how it ended & how it differed from the movie. 😆👍 7y
DebinHawaii @rabbitprincess I am reading The Importance of Being Ernest & The Mysteries of Udolpho on it now. 📚👍 7y
batsy @DebinHawaii Oh yeah, absolutely. Was just letting you know in case you weren't aware of that option 😊 7y
DebinHawaii @batsy And I forgot to thank you for letting me know--generally I miss those kinds of details so I appreciate it! 😀💜 7y

Only one issue to go now, thank goodness! But... it arrives in 31 hours?! What's going on here?

HAHAHAHA HAH. No. 😒 You have got to be effin kidding me. I was wondering if the whole plot line of Edgar preying on Lilla had just been dropped, but it's worse. Lilla is oblivious, doesn't even understand that Mimi's struggle with him was to protect Lilla, and is now considering MARRYING HIM JUST BECAUSE HE'S RICH and because she wants to be married like her cousin. Shoot me now before I face palm myself to death. ⬇️

athorne Not reading because I fell behind due to my slump, but please tag me in a reply comment so that once I‘m caught up I can look at it. 7y
Leniverse Then, in the very next paragraph, she changes her mind and is terrified of him! Then follows another long, silent staring contest. This is farcical. 🙄 7y

Perhaps the sole good line I've read in this book #wormybuddyread #sorrybuddyreaders #thisoneisadud

rabbitprincess Haha that was a good line! 7y

Leniverse Just rushing through is tempting, but I can't do more than 10 minutes a day of this. 😣 7y
BookishTrish @DarcysMom it really is atrocious! I hold my ten minutes a day until the end of the day and then usually fall asleep midway through. I'm slightly embarrassed to have chosen it as my first #buddyread #facepalm 7y
BookishTrish @leniverse Shall we quit? 7y
Leniverse @BookishTrish I've suffered this long, I might as well finish the book. It's one more for the stats, you know! 😆 7y

So in order to protect Mimi from Lady Arabella, they leave Lilla without her only protection against Edgar. And Mimi goes along with this!? She doesn't even tell Lilla she's leaving? I just can't with this book! Even without the horrid racism it reads like an underdeveloped first draft. #wormybuddyread

sprainedbrain I‘m glad I skipped it. 😳 7y
Leniverse @sprainedbrain I'm only reading on because it's only ten minutes a day and because I've suffered it this long so I'm damned well going to have it count as a book read! And rate it one star! 😖 7y
sprainedbrain @Leniverse I understand that need to finish! 7y
