#AChangeOfCircumstance #SusanHill #MarvellousMarch #BookSpinBingo

I would like to thank NetGalley & The Overlook Press for an advanced copy of A Change of Circumstance by Susan Hill for honest review. This is the 11th installment of the Simon Serrailler series. I have read the whole series thus far & can honestly say that it is one of my favorite series that I look forward to reading. Susan Hill is a master of characterization and storytelling.

EadieB The Serrailler Family characters seem like members of your own family. Simon, a son of two doctors, is a Detective Chief Superintendent of the Lafferton Police. Simon's sister, Cat Deerbon, has three children and is now married to Chief Constable Kieron Bright. She is a General Practitioner in the National Health Society. When a young man dies of a heroine overdose, Simon realizes that a drug network has infiltrated the local schools. (edited) 3y
EadieB Will Simon be able to crush this network and keep Lafferton save from the drugs? The plot is dark and gripping and the story keeps the pages turning until the very end. Simon's personal life is also a major part of the book as Rachel Wyatt, Simon's ex-lover, returns to Lafferton. Can't wait to read the next installment in order to see where this relationship is going. 3y
EadieB Susan Hill knows how to keep you invested in this series. If you like crime novels with family drama, then you will enjoy this series. 3y

EadieB @Book_Fiend_Melissa ok but you need to know the good ones! 4y
Hazel2019 I‘ve just purchased a couple books from your series‘ recommendations...just to try them out 😊 4y
EadieB @Hazel2019 Which ones did you buy? 4y
Hazel2019 @EadieB The cold cold ground by Adrian McKinty and Iron Lake by William Kent Krueger. Did I choose well for a start? I‘m very new to book series of any type. 4y
EadieB @Hazel2019 yes they are good ones. After you should get (edited) 4y
Hazel2019 @EadieB will do! Appreciate the recommendations 😊 4y
Hazel2019 @EadieB and make sure your TBR here is up to date so I don‘t accidentally get you something you already have with the #LMPBC package 😁 4y
EadieB @Hazel2019 Ok I'll go through my TBR list. How do you remove books for your TBR? Can't seem to figure that out. Choices are TBR, Reading or Read. (edited) 4y
Hazel2019 @EadieB if you just click on the TBR icon twice, it should de-select it. And then say done. It won‘t be on any list then. 4y
EadieB @Hazel2019 OK Thanks! 4y

Day 19 - #SetDuringSpring #MagnificentMarch
#InTheSpringtimeOfTheYear #SusanHill

I have a copy of this book and look forward to reading it.

In the Springtime of the Year is a 1973 novel by Susan Hill. Hill has stated that the book was inspired by the sudden death of a man to whom she had been close for eight years.

OriginalCyn620 Sounds sad. 😔 5y
EadieB @OriginalCyn620 A book to read when you need a good cry! 5y

DCI Simon Serrailler returns to work after losing his arm. After a burglary, Simon makes a serious error of judgment when handling the incident. Stress from this and the trauma of losing his arm finds Simon in jeopardy with his job. There are a few more subplots that keep the book hard to put down. I am now awaiting the next book in order to find out more about things going on in Simon‘s life. One of the better books in the series. Recommended.

BookishMe Oh, TIL Susan Hill has written a series! 5y
EadieB @BookishMe Yes! It is a great series! 5y
BookishMe @EadieB will look it up! 👌🏾👌🏾 5y

9th installment of Simon Serrailler series is not as good as others in the series but still enjoyable writing. Simon is recovering from arm amputation injury from last book on Scottish Island Taransay. He solves murder of a woman and goes back to Lafferton to solve cold case of Kimberly Still who has disappeared. Love this series but I think Hill is losing interest as last book was 3 y ago. Hoping for a next book and think you should give it a try

KathyWheeler I think I must be behind a little bit — I don‘t remember anything happening to Simon‘s arm in any of the books I read! 6y
EadieB @KathyWheeler In the last book, he received a near-fatal injury and in this book they explained that they just had to amputate his arm. 6y
KathyWheeler @EadieB I think I must have missed the last book too. 6y

I‘m looking forward to reading this book 9 of The Simon Serrailler mystery series when it comes out in November. Susan Hill is best known for The Woman in Black but I really enjoy her Simon Serrailler series. Book 1 is The Various Haunts of Men and takes place in Lafferton, a small town near London and deals with missing people. Excellent series not to be missed.

Mehso-so

Just finished reading ‘The Woman in Black: Angel of Death‘ by Martyn Waites. It was pretty good. I enjoyed reading it but I don‘t think it has that reread ability factor that Hill‘s original has. Now, off to watch the three movies!
