So I should be grateful it'll only be the 2nd hottest to last year, right? Right? #livingindantesinferno 🔥

TEArificbooks We had our hottest July and it was hotter than June. Our average was 113 but we spent 42 days above 110 and of those 30 were above 115. Today was first day below 105 and my water heater broke. 4mo
dabbe @TEArificbooks Are you okay and safe? I'm afraid all of the iced tea in the world can't combat those numbers! 😱 #thepainisreal 🔥 4mo
TEArificbooks @dabbe well we didn‘t die but I will say the heat really did affect me even at the house with ac on. Got lots of nausea and woozy feelings. Spent most of the month with some level of heat sickness. We tried to stay home as much as possible. Stayed hydrated. It‘s been brutal, to top it off I‘m going through menopause. Hot flashes and 120+ not good. 4mo
Kitta Oh gosh! I can‘t imagine how hot that‘ll be. I‘m dealing with a broken HVAC here in NYC and it‘s too hot for me when it goes above 30C / 86F. 4mo
LeeRHarry Yikes, I thought summers here were hot but er nope! 4mo
dabbe @TEArificbooks Oh, lordy. Hot flashes in July are awful. You're doing all of the right things. Maybe try an ice cold bath. I've done that with ice cubes thrown in the bathtub. That'll help lower your physical temperature, too. Stay safe. 🩶🖤🩶 4mo
dabbe @Kitta 86º inside your place is horrible! I hope you get your HVAC fixed asap. NYC holds all that heat in, too, with those huge buildings. 😱 Stay safe. 🩶🖤🩶 4mo
dabbe @LeeRHarry I think it's hotter everywhere. Period. I know Phoenix is supposed to be hot; that's why we rise out of the ashes, so to speak. But 115º hot for 30+ days with humidity above 30% and absolutely no rain is beyond the pale. At least we're not in the Saharan Desert. Yet. 😂 4mo
kspenmoll It is hot here in CT but no where near what you all are experiencing. So so sorry you have had such a terrible time with heat related suckness @TEArificbooks @Kitta hope your AC gets fixed soon- @dabbe Stay safe & out of those sweltering temps. It has been hottest July since 2010. Staying indoors is awful. 3mo
dabbe @kspenmoll When it gets hot in CT, you know things are batsh*t crazy. Seeing your porch most days is my main moment of zen. 🖤🩶🖤 3mo

Well, I loved this. We absolutely NEED more books about perimenopausal women! I‘ll be reading any I can get my hands on because, solidarity 👊🏻
Sure, there was a lot going on, but for a debut novel, this is solid and it just resonated with me on so many levels.

jdiehr Don't even get me started on the perimenopause crap! #solidarity 13mo

The shelf clean up is moving forward...with another French book:
Cute, absurd and hopeful this is a story about found family in difficult circumstances. I liked the clear message that whatever life throws at you, it always goes on and most likely, you'll be happy again someday - with a little help from your friends and pets. 🐱🐶🐣

Broke my book-buying ban yesterday. Stopped into my local used book shop. (I lasted a month. 😐)

Ruthiella One month, not bad! 👍 2y
Hooked_on_books A month is great! I refuse to do book buying bans. I don‘t like setting myself up for failure. 😉😬 2y
merelybookish @Ruthiella @Hooked_on_books Can always count on Litten friends to understand/enable. 😉 2y
batsy The ban had to be broken! #solidarity These books look good. I think I have an Isabel Colegate book on my wishlist... 2y

#BeachDay I don‘t know why but the tagged book just isn‘t jiving with me 🤷🏼‍♀️I‘ve made several attempts and I‘m on page 104 but still I‘m not hooked. So I‘m putting this one aside and I started a book that was on my phone - Not A Happy Family & honestly, I‘m digging it 😁

TrishB Go for the one you‘re enjoying 👍🏻 hope you‘re having fun. 2y
DGRachel Bailing is a good thing. I support your decision 💯 2y

AmyG Ha, I just did a bail. With so many books to read…why torture myself. (edited) 2y
Centique The photo looks lovely. Are the beaches nice? Are you eating lovely food? (Says the girl who hasn‘t been overseas since 2018 😍) 2y
BookNerd9906 I also have picked this one up twice and put it down twice. #solidarity 2y
Cinfhen I‘m SOOOO happy to hear you bailed on this one too @BookNerd9906 because I‘ve only heard good things about this book and I kept wondering what am I missing 🤷🏼‍♀️I might try again….or not 😉Exactly @AmyG I was forcing something that just wasn‘t working for me 2y
Cinfhen The beach is really lovely @Centique 🤩It‘s my first time in Europe since 2020 !! I will say traveling has been horrendous, long long long lines and lots of delays but once we landed it‘s been wonderful. I‘m eating way to let and not very healthy but that‘s part of vacationing, I guess. 2y
Centique @Cinfhen don‘t worry about it just ENJOY. You‘re finally back in Europe and it was hard work to get there so you deserve to enjoy every good moment 💕 You‘ve worked so hard for your lovely family when they were visiting so I hope you can just relax now and truly have fun 💕💕 2y
Cinfhen @Centique Much love 2 u P the Flea xxxxx 2y
Centique @Cinfhen and all the aroha back to you lovely Cindy xxx 2y

Chapter 19, and Huntington is still messing with Helen, but how will it end? #pemberlittens #chapteraday

Ruthiella Unfortunately I totally understand her attraction to the “bad boy”. 2y
Lcsmcat Reading this one slowly somehow dilutes rather than concentrates the tension. Hm. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y

BarkingMadRead @Chili he‘s playing her and she can‘t even see it! 2y
Bklover Good grief that woman is attracted to jerks. And rather than annoy me it makes her a bit more human. I just find myself rolling my eyes at her. 🙄😉 (edited) 2y

julieclair @TheBookHippie Yes! And even if they manage to hold their tongues, their facial expression and body language makes their opinions clear, lol. 😂 But honestly, that scene was incredible. The impertinence and condescension. Ugh. 3y

TheBookHippie @julieclair LOL 🧘🏻‍♀️ I stay home and avoid the world on Mother‘s Day. Tradition I started when I turned 45. I‘m allowed a peaceful beautiful day. I‘ve done my time 🤣 3y
julieclair @TheBookHippie What a lovely idea! Mother's Day the way YOU want it! And I bet books will be involved... 😃📚 3y

julieclair @TheBookHippie Yum… Chinese food… this is getting better and better! 🥡👍😆 3y
mollyrotondo My edition‘s notes on this chapter talk about this book being an early example of the temperance novel. I love that this book explains the importance of understanding a family history of addiction and how it needs to be tempered in future generations in order to stop the cycle but is also very honest about how much to control this when raising a child since outright denial can lead to the same outcome of overindulgence. Really love her writing. 3y

This short book is a difficult read, if you take it seriously and really get introspective and honest with yourself. She frequently references how each of us, and the church as an institution, needs to die in order to become something better, like a seed must crack open in order to produce fruit. The basis of the American church, as an institution of colonialism and oppression, is hard to take for those who love it. But we need this book.
