An interesting way to view Rembrandt‘s works - an emphasis on his self portraits and the way he painted his nose. It mentioned a lot about the artists‘ life but didn‘t go into detail. I don‘t much about Rembrandt‘s life so I wish it had more information about that, but otherwise a good read.
3/5 stars read if you want to read about a unique way to consider Rembrandt‘s works.

This book was everything. Best read in contemplation, the author‘s writing was simple yet, every sentence had something to unpack.
I left reading this book with much understanding of my faith and a picture of God the Father that I never knew before.
I highly recommend it!

Borrowed from Miss K because I know NOTHING! Either you like Simon Schama or you don't. I like him: he's erudite without a hint of stuffiness and he spins a damned good story.
Caravaggio, Bernini, Rembrandt, David, Turner, Van Gogh, Picasso, Rothko. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the Rothko chapter: didn't think I "got" that kind of art at all. Thoroughly absorbing book altogether.

This book was beautiful and well told. Coming of age in the seventeenth century as the illegitimate daughter of Rembrandt. I think it was actually based on his daughter if I‘m remembering that right.

This is definitely a book best read in a contemplative mood but I appreciated it despite just chugging through.
