Finished my pick for #LMPBC. There was a lot to take in with this book. Though I don't want to say too much before my group gets a chance to read it. Very comparable to Educated by Tara Westover. How these women survived let alone thrived, despite their upbringings, is incredible. I can't wait to read my groups thoughts on it all.

The first half of this book is brilliant I loved learning who the people were and seeing how passionate they about their causes.

I was expecting more science fiction, but found it to be more a historical fiction account of the antebellum south. Aside from the time travelling that is. An engaging story regardless.

BookNightOwl I picked this up years ago not knowing anything about it and I loved it. 6y
Kasie I read this years ago in a science fiction class and loved it. It does a great job at almost hiding the science fiction side of it. The perspective on the subject is great. 6y
Leftcoastzen Need to read this! 6y

I really wanted to like this but I could not. I've read other Okorafor books and liked them, but I could not get into this one. I nearly bailed and I never bail. It's clearly a social commentary on Nigerian culture, but that combined with the science fiction elements just all seemed forced. And boring. 🤷‍♀️

It wasn't bad, but I wasn't riveted. I do think it would make a good book club pick though. It touches on a number of "hot topics" that I think would make for some good discussions.

This novel tells one family's story over 12 days leading up to, during, and the day after Hurricane Katrina. Such amazingly vivid storytelling, especially during the hurricane.

Shley9225 Is this good? I felt like it was going to be just like every other YA Medical Contemporary so I passed on it :/ 6y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego @Shley9225 It is your typical YA love story. Which I enjoy. But there is a plot twist, and I was surprised by it. It's a quick read, so even if you don't love it, you won't of invested to much time in it. 😊 6y
Shley9225 @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego *immediately requests it from library* 6y
