Welcome to Litsy!

I finished 2 more courses in my degree towards a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. This semester was intense. I felt sick some days (physically) and couldn't take care of myself because school NEVER stops! I am taking a semester off before I start my preceptorship (I can't emotionally- self-care - physically - think about working for free right now).

I am excited to use this time to read, regroup, and organize my home/life.

During this blog we turn the Authors Spotlight onto Lukas Klessig and his book “Words With My Father: A Bipolar Journey Through Turbulent Times”.

Words With My Father offers a gripping portrait of the evolution of a young man's mental illness and how it manifested into a dramatic and often dangerous existence through the turbulence of the Civil Rights, Peace and Conservation movements.

I couldn't rate this book. It's well written, and the brain energy theory sounds plausible. I am skeptical of some of the solutions to mental illness, particularly the ketogenic diet. I can't speak to its efficacy until I've tried it. The book describes the theory in scientific terms involving mitochondria and the metabolic system. It's is fascinating, and parts are over my uneducated head. I will have to do my own research. I have a project now!

4 ⭐. Christian/guidance through mental health.

2 courses down. I finally got the “official“ grades (I got 2 A's) - but now I think I need to be okay with less than an A going forward because... I do know if I can continue to handle the stress of being a perfectionist (I know it's not that easy, but ugh).

School resumes on the 26th. I am taking Advanced Pharmacology (my advisor told me not to double up the next 2 courses because of the subject matter, so I am following his advice).
