I've been waiting for this book for almost two months ... and the longlist for #ManBookerInternationalPrize2017 will be completed ✅

merelybookish Wow! That's impressive. 7y
Simona Thanks, this year list is quite interesting and the majority of the authors were unknown to me. @merelybookish 7y

merelybookish @Simona any in particular you'd recommend? 7y
Vikz Looking forward to seeing what you think of this book 7y
Moray_Reads Oh I need this one! 7y
Simona @merelybookish If you like slow paced stories - Amos Oz, Judas. It's is my winner from this year longlist. And if you like more challenging stories - Yan Lianke - The Explosion Chronicles. It's a satire about growth/development in China. 7y

I'm an introvert, working in a extremely extrovert profession and environment ... so, #cominghome for me is all about in the picture. Recharging in solitude with my therapist 😊 #dogsoflitsy #petsoflitsy

Book in the tag is from this year #manbookerinternationalprize2017 shortlist and is about the meaning of the home, isolation and loss (family, living in the small island). Not my favorite, but still interesting.

Cinfhen Great picture and your "therapist" seems wonderful ❤️❤️❤️just read another review about this book ~ doesn't seem to be a favorite ? 8y
Hooked_on_books I feel you! I have two four-legged furry therapists, myself. Introverts unite! 8y
Simona @Cinfhen Thanks! It's not bad, but there's something missing in this story and I can't figure it out what. 8y

Simona @Hooked_on_books The best kind of therapists for introverts IMO! Although - my therapist has a lot to say, sometimes.😂 8y
Reecaspieces I feel you...I work in an extroverted job as well and nothing better than coming home to regroup with my 4 legged therapists 8y
Sace Love this post and picture. 8y
Simona @Reecaspieces I like my job, but coming home to my furry child is 💕💕💕. (edited) 8y
Simona @Sace Thanks 🙏 8y

Pickpick

The basic story is simple-we read the chronicle about growth of the village into the city. When villagers taste the power of money, the development starts to rotate at high speed. It's story written in a satirical style, with mythorealism elements, story about the progress of society and what we are willing/forced to sacrifice for prosperity. It isn't fun or enjoyable read, the story is absurd, bizarre, but it is important and thought provoking.

Laura317 You nailed it. I struggled through it, but did think it was a worthwhile book. 8y
Simona @Laura317 Last year I read The Four Books, so I was ready to struggle with this one. Usually I'm reading books about which I don't know nothing, or a very little. But for his works, I think, it's better to know with what you are dealing and what to expect. Yes, it's absolutely worth the effort. 8y

I'm going to start the season for #ManBookerInternationalPrize2017 with this book. Lianke was nominee on shortlist last year and The Four Books was my pick for the winner. My expectations are high!

Yan Lianke - China 🇨🇳

rockpools Do you follow the prize each year? 8y
Simona @Laalaleighh I'm on page 100 and I must say that I like what I've read so far. Have you read (edited) 8y
Laalaleighh @simona I haven't 8y
Simona @RachelO For few years now, yes. And I'm trying to read all the books from longlist 🤗 8y
Simona @Laalaleighh The atmosphere and the writing style is similar ... but it is set in different time period and it seems to me as if I'm reading the sequel. 🤔 8y
Laalaleighh @simona really? I'll have to add it to my list as well then! 8y
