This was amazing. Organic, non-western based worldbuilding, interesting characters with both inner and outside obstacles to overcome, decent plot beside the main #mmromance, plenty of unresolved sexual tension, interesting court politics, friendship & family drama, a touch of magic that blends well with the rest, and written well besides.

On one hand, I‘m incredibly glad this is a standalone; on the other—I‘d love me a sequel or a spinoff.

This is ridiculous, and it knows it 👍 I do like me a self-aware book. A romantic comedy (emphasis on comedy) starring sexy, hilarious (emphasis on hilarious) dragon shifters. Surprisingly, the 1st person dual POV isn‘t annoying, and the #mmromance is low-stakes and cute. Technically, this is a 2nd volume, which I only found out after I‘d already started reading, but it works as a standalone.

A small complaint: too many F bombs per page.

This begins when Wallace dies—ghosts in October, yay! The hill he has to climb, development-wise, is a tad steep, but that‘s the only real complaint I have. It‘s wholesome, cute, and full of vivid characters. It made me both laugh and cry, sometimes simultaneously, which in my book is endorsement enough. If you liked The House in the Cerulean Sea, chances are you‘ll like this, too. The main theme there was acceptance—here, it‘s grief.

This one goes into “Romancing a Trainwreck“ bucket, on both sides of the fence. Both the MC and his love interest have issues — or rather, their issues have issues. Which is part of the reason why this book is so fun. That's a hard balance to strike, to give your characters enough faults to make them relatable but not enough to make them unlikable, and the author manages splendidly.

I recently read an ARC for Briefly Buddies—coming August 6th, 2021—by Chase Connor. Hilarious, sexy, fun, great gay and bi rep, and #LGBTQIA rep in general. I‘m not a big #erotica reader, but this #newadult #mmromance, billed as “An LGBTQ+ New Adult Erotic Comedy” was simply a lot of fun. Definitely recommend to M/M, LGBTQ+, erotica, new adult, and comedy readers.
