Handmaid's Tale | Margaret Atwood

I was not prepared to be so affected by this book! My first Atwood and I must say I am impressed. It‘s disturbing and sad and totally plausible. It‘s the female version of 1984, and being a woman, this hits closer to home.

Cinfhen I agree, this book was SO GOOD!!!! 4y
SamAnne I just finished rereading--it has been years and years--in conjunction with reading the sequel The Testaments. I had forgotten just what a brilliant classic it was. I loved the set up of it being a story handed down and read in the future--highlighting the need to bear witness, tell your story as an act of protest and for those who come after. And I love Atwood's introduction in the new edition. Highly recommend the Testaments ! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage This really is a classic now. Unlike @SamAnne I didn‘t like The Testaments nearly as much. But it‘s worth knowing the next chapters in the story. 4y
Jovy @SamAnne @BarbaraTheBibliophage I was debating if I should dive straight into The Testaments or if I should savour this first 😀 4y

Read this for this month‘s #ReadWithMrBook prompt that was #LitsyAwardWinner. I have started to read a lot of picture books this year and I really liked this one.

This was a bit up and down for me. I‘m not usually a fan of fantasy so it took me a little while to get into this one. I then really started to enjoy it, but it dipped a bit in the middle to then end strongly.

I could have done with knowing before I started that there was a glossary of Russian terms at the end...

But overall a pick, and it ticks off two challenge prompts.

squirrelbrain Itks the most ‘forest‘ related cushion I have @BookwormM ! 🤣 No bears or nightingales, but owls live in forests right?! 4y
arlenefinnigan Cool owl 🦉 4y
Caroline2 Yes! I found this one up and down too. I‘ve asked for the sequel for my bday. 😉 4y

Easy and funny book by my fav author. It emphasises how little things matters in life. It sheds light on both the best & annoying part of parenting! It‘s a book that makes you laugh. Some stories are really emotional, but narrated in a honest and humorous way. I listen to this whenever my little girl took nap 😛 3.5🌟

Done with my #9 book of #bookspinbingo

I reread Ninth House for #bbbbc and I think I enjoyed it even more this time. I loved the magic systems, Darlington, the New England setting, the secret societies and I really need Bardugo to publish the next one 🖤

I loved this book! Totally worth the hype! I was laughing and crying throughout parts of this. Though focusing on two individuals in the spotlight, McQuiston does well making everything seem so realistic. The complications. The secrets. And, the trust and hope in this book. A perfect distraction read.

#Xander helped me finish the book. #catsoflitsy

Okay, I thought in the first few pages I was going to bail- Alex comes off as an immature jerk. Luckily that passes quickly. I ended up breezing through.

I don‘t read much romance, but this was great. The political aspect added a lot to the story. It was fun that part of it took place here in Austin, too.

I loved this book. It was funny, heartwarming, romantic and just fantastic. In an altered reality of ours we have a female President and a first son who starts a relationship with the Prince of England. Its complicated and adorable 💜
