I love catching things in the garden at a very early stage....on the right, normal view of my lilac bush just starting to leaf... but if you look close (on the left) you can see these tiny purple nubs, looks like the tips of cotton swabs dipped in purple paint that you know will become the large lilac blooms within a month.
