I highly recommend all the Kenzie&Gennaro books (except Moonlight Mile). Dark, funny, and full of Boston life, they are perfect for trains, airplanes, and long afternoons. They are violent, this one especially. I love Lehane's push and pull with morality and truth. This one is the darkest, and my second favorite. The series isn't perfect, but what it loses in quality it makes up for in heart & excitement. #augustphotochallenge #laidbackbooks

#AugustPhotoChallenge This is probably the closest I get to #laidbackbooks except some YA and/or Rainbow Rowell every once in a while, which I really have to be in the mood for. My default is & will probably always be Stephen King or serial killer thrillers because my mom raised me on X-Files or something? Idk what this says about me but 💁🏻. Also love Kathy Reichs, James Patterson, & Terry Pratchett! (But he doesn't write about murderers.) 💀

Last minute #laidbackbooks pick for the #Augustphotochallenge! I read this one on a plane last summer and it's super cute and low stress--it'd be a decent pick-me-up palate-cleanser book between heavier reads. It's about a Lucille Ball-esque actress in 1960s London and it's pretty much delightful.

Most of my laid back books are on my Kindle (on the right) but I have a few physical copies as well. (Not all my laid back books are red, just a weird coincidence.)

For laid back books, I like to read about people traveling or moving to a foreign place. No soul searching, no one trying to find themselves, no one getting over a death or divorce, no hiking the Appalachian Trail with the hopes of figuring out who you are. None of that. Just give me an old house in a good setting. The soul searching books are good - and I love them, but not for laid back reading. #augustphotochallenge #laidbackbooks

It's in the title - this is a #laidbackbook! Fun to dip in and out of, this is like Cliffs Notes of all the biggest hits in one package. While enjoyably snarky and conversational in tone it does have enough substance to get you through cocktail party chitchat including not just a quick plot synopsis but also The Best Line, What's Sexy, and What to Skip. Beach reading for the exhausted Lit major in all of us who want to read the fun stuff instead😊

#laidbackbooks - For several years, I had the tradition of reading an Isabel Dalhousie mystery around the holidays. These are lovely reads for busy times, easy to dip into & out of and back into again, when life is full of interruptions. They helped me focus on taking it easy and enjoying the time with family. When I think of kicking it at the beach or some such relaxing reading endeavor, it's gotta be comics/graphic novels.
