Influenced by the BritBox show,I started reading inspector Allen Bank series.This # two in the series captivated me from the start.A former professor,a “dedicated man,” inherited money & moves to the Yorkshire Dales to pursue his archaeological work.Everyone seems to love him,& yet he‘s found bludgeoned to death.What secrets are people holding, past in present?I was mesmerized & carried along as Banks pursued one lot of inquiry after another.⬇️

#12BooksOf2024 My book for #May had to be the last from the late great crime writer Peter Robinson, RIP. I‘ve been reading his DCI Banks series for over 20yrs and the fact there will never be another one saddens me immensely. I highly recommend the whole series but if you don‘t want to go that far back, Aftermath is a great starting point in the timeline.

My first Inspector Banks book and I have to say I‘m a fan. While it was written many years ago now - leading to some outdated scenes (smoking in an office!) - it still contained some frank and interesting observations about changing views and gender roles, marriage, sexuality and policing - all while covering three interesting and entertaining mysteries. Definitely going to be back for more!
