Unpopular opinion. The prose and setting are good, but not much is happening and it‘s just boring me. Very similar to Lost Apothecary which I didn‘t like. #hailthebail

I used to really like Curtis Sittenfeld. I thought her first two books were amazing, Prep and Rodham. But ever since then…meh. I dutifully start each one but then disappointment sets in. This is a short story collection. Read the first three, didn‘t get any of them, bailed. Maybe they‘ll speak to someone else, but it wasn‘t me.
Nothing wrong with this one, it just wasn‘t working for me, and even though I‘ve listened to some of her music, I‘m not enough of a fan to stick with it until the end.
Also, currently trying to tame down my “Currently Reading” list so that I can start new books! 😅
I‘d never read a Rainbow Rowell book, so when I saw this on the library shelf I figured I‘d give it a try. Almost 100 pages in and I‘m throwing in the towel. The main character is annoying, the dialogue is trite and stilted… and the worst offense? It‘s just so incredibly boring. 😖 Moving on.
5 DNF's -- Hail the Bail! (Actually, at least 6.)
I got somewhat derailed from my plan by the #TransRightsReadathon, so some extra books around the sides. Plan to read Making Money for my upcoming vacation though.
My #Bookspinbingo board was very left handed this month. Bailed on 3 books, but at least they‘re off the list!
Got 100-200 pages in just didn't get anywhere fuming had to put it down 22nd March till today 31st March I tried 🤬😤😖🙈
I started this because the author was born at the same time and place as one of my great great grandfathers, but their lives have moved in different directions and there‘s still a are still literally hundreds of pages of self-congratulatory florid prose to go. I‘m bailing so I can remove it from my profile!
There‘s nothing wrong with this book. I just don‘t have any enthusiasm for it. And why bother spending time on books I‘m not enthusiastic about?
I typically really like Donoghue, so this surprises me. And I‘m honestly not sure if this is me, the book, or the format. I found the audio reader hard to hear somehow, and that certainly didn‘t help. (I think the performance was fine and the mixing just needs to be adjusted.) I may try it again in print just because of the author.
