Austenland: A Novel | Shannon Hale

Jane Hayes has always been obsessed with Pride and Prejudice, and is looking for her Mr. Darcy. When her aunt passes away, she finds out that her aunt has left her a trip to an immersive Jane Austen-themed resort as part of her will. This was a very light, fun read!

CogsOfEncouragement I really enjoyed this as well as Midnight in Austenland. I remember going to the movie with a friend when it came to theaters. Hilarious. 8mo
CoffeeNBooks @CogsOfEncouragement I watched Austenland and really enjoyed it! I just downloaded Midnight in Austenland so I can read it next. 8mo

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I enjoyed both the book and movie of this one and honestly had trouble deciding which I liked better. I wasn't as big of a fan of Midnight, but hopefully you enjoy it!! 8mo

Mehso-so

This tells the story of Marie-Laure from France and Werner from Germany, both young teenagers at the start of WWII, and how their lives change in devastating ways because of the war. It was told in very short dual timelines and jumped back and forth a bit, which was sometimes hard to follow along with, which is what made it a so-so rather than a pick.

Yuki_Onna Wow, kudos for finishing this! 👏 8mo
Ruthiella The super short chapters bothered me at first too. 8mo

CoffeeNBooks @Cheryl_Russell_BookNotes So many of my friends loved this book, but I just didn't. 🙁 The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah is my favorite WWII book. 8mo

This was such a good book!! I'm so glad I let Litsy posts influence me to move this one to the top of my TBR stack!

Charlie unexpectedly becomes the heir to his uncle's businesses, both legal and not-so-legal, and unwittingly finds himself in the middle of the criminal organization his uncle was a member of.

What a haunting beautiful story of marriage, motherhood, and friendship. In her later years, Isobel recalls the summer of 1936 in Cypress, Michigan: the effect it had on her marriage to Victor, how much her children (Henry, Louisa, and Thomas) grew up, and her friendship with a summer resident named Cathryn.

I enjoyed this story of Mim and her mom Dahlia, who are aromateurs. Mim is a teenager trying to find her own path both at school and with her friends, hoping that she can make that work with the expectations set forth for her by her mom, and generations ago by her aromateur ancestors.

The Posts and two of their close family friends go to Mallorca for a family vacation, but their problems still follow them to this beautiful island. Jim & Franny, Bobby & Carmen, Charles & Lawrence, and even Sylvia must deal with what life has thrown their way.

James is a retiree who lives at Sage Gardens Retirement Community. He suffers from a heart attack at his birthday party, but some of the other residents suspect foul play and decide to look into it on their own.

This is just barely a pick, but it's still a pick. This was definitely not the best cozy mystery I've ever read but also not the worst. I just enjoyed it for what it was!
