I‘m not sure how I feel about this book and I think it‘s because I just finished ‘Anxious People‘. That book works its way from the inside out while this one works from the outside in as far has how humans work. #foodforthought #litsy

Sexist much? You know you‘re reading something written in the 20th Century or earlier when you come across lines like this! #nottheonlyunpredictablesex

Hey #EoE buddy readers! As you read Part One I‘m throwing out an obvious thought/question... the significance of the book‘s title?! Are you familiar with the story of Adam & Eve/ Original Sin/ Cain & Abel from The Book of Genesis ??! Are you finding parallels??? Can‘t wait to discuss this and so much more on Friday, June 21

Anyone can still join in!!! Reading and discussing Part One on Friday 6/21

sisilia I haven‘t started but I saw a clip of the movie with James Dean in it. Gorgeous!!! I‘m guessing it‘s Cain Abel story, fighting over a girl? Lol. I‘m going in blindly 🙈 Excited about this now 6y
Cinfhen James Dean??? That‘s flippin awesome @sisilia I NEED to watch the film after the book 😎and your copy of this book is gorgeous 🐧🧡 6y
bookandbedandtea I haven't started! 😫 Hopefully tomorrow night. I am familiar with those stories from Genesis so I'll be intrested in comparisons to the book. 6y
See All 17 Comments
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen @sisilia I looked the movie up & it is playing on cable on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) tomorrow morning here so I am going to DVR it & watch it again (it's been years & years) after reading the book. 6y
Cinfhen Great @bookandbedandtea #FoodForThought 🍎and you are receiving more #signsfromabove @DebinHawaii 🙏🏻 6y
mrp27 Movie is great, I've seeing several times and James Dean is deliciously handsome but already the book is so much more! I already finished part one. 6y
sisilia @DebinHawaii @Cinfhen I‘ll save the movie for later. Can‘t wait to drool over JD 😍 On a slightly different note, a lady in my last year‘s meditation course has garden of eden tattoo all over her back. It‘s gorgeous!!! 6y
batsy I've not watched the movie and like @sisilia I'll also save the swooning over JD till I finish the book 😆 I'm familiar with the stories Cindy but haven't actually read the Bible so I look forward to seeing comments on that when I'm done with Part 1. I just got introduced to Cathy... I'm so intrigued and also have a bone to pick with Steinbeck about his women so far... 6y
Simona As @batsy I‘m familiar with the stories, but never read the Bible ... 6y
Cinfhen I think a basic knowledge of the Bible stories will still help to make the connections @Simona @batsy it‘ll be interesting to see. I‘m SOOOOOO TEMPTED to read ahead @mrp27 6y
Cinfhen And yes, his treatment of women is terrible 😫😫😫 6y
erzascarletbookgasm I think my knowledge of the stories are limited to those ‘Stories From The Bible‘ that I read when I was young..short versions, no doubt. 🤔 And did someone say James Dean?? 6y
Marina_h My knowledge of the stories is very limited so I might have to do some research. I've read the first 50 pages so almost halfway with part 1. So far I'm enjoying it but yes the women.. 6y
Reviewsbylola Finished part 1 last night! Still as good as I remember. 6y
MemoirsForMe I enjoyed Steinbeck‘s description of the lush grounds of Salinas since I visited there years ago. And he sure makes it sound like paradise: the Garden of Eden. And ooh-la-la: James Dean. 😍I‘m definitely watching the movie after I finish this book! 6y
peaKnit I‘ve just restarted and the descriptions are even richer then I remember. I‘m generally aware of the biblical stories, most specifically how this compared to Caine and Abel, but look forward to learning more. 6y
rubyslippersreads I just finished Part 1 and probably won‘t be able to resist reading ahead. (Although I do have a YA book to finish for my IRL book club.) 6y

alisiakae As long as I can get through my mom/daughter books before Saturday, I‘m in! My copy is beat up and old, I feel like I need a new edition. 😂 6y

BarbaraBB You‘ll love it, no doubt 💕 6y
Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB me too, you can always join in for a reread, like me 😉 6y
BarbaraBB @Kalalalatja are you rereading? That would be great but you know, #somanybookssolittletime 6y
Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB I plan on doing so, but I get it. I‘m just in the mood for a reread, so this buddy read was timed just right 👌 6y
rubyslippersreads Thanks for the tag. I can‘t believe I‘ve never read this. 6y
Reviewsbylola I‘m ready!!! 6y
Reviewsbylola Let‘s see if I still give it five stars. ⭐️ 6y
emilyhaldi I started this on Sunday and couldn‘t put it down!!! 🙌🏻 6y

Megabooks Very nice of you, as always, friend! 😘😘 6y
CoffeeAndABook That‘s a brilliant idea 🙌🏻 Love it!!! Good luck 🍀 to everyone ☀️🌸 6y
Cinfhen Thanks so much @Megabooks I‘ve had over 1100 new followers since January and 5 have entered the giveaway 😂😂😂🙄🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y

Cinfhen See above comment @CoffeeAndABook 👆🏽😂😂❤️ 6y
CoffeeAndABook Wow really!!! 😂 I‘d say those five have *great*odds of winning that giveaway 🤪 I still think it‘s a fab idea!!! 6y
TrishB That‘s a bit sad isn‘t it- 5. I‘ve had a lot of new followers but not much interaction. It‘s hard because you want to welcome people but then they don‘t post or join in 🤷‍♀️ 6y
Cinfhen I tried but it‘s pretty telling sign... I‘m so happy I joined early and got to really bond with my #OGsOfLitsy @TrishB @CoffeeAndABook ♥️ 6y
TrishB Me too ❤️ it‘s so worth the effort though. 6y
CoffeeAndABook Yes to the #OGsOfLitsy !! 💞💞💞😘 6y
Megabooks @Cinfhen Yes, I was a suggested user up until a few months ago. (That‘s why I have 18k followers.) It‘s kind of frustrating because you get a lot of new followers, but a lot of them never post. It‘s hard to separate the posters/interested new users from the casual account makers. Glad to be an #OGofLitsy! Joined 3 years and 3 months ago! Love Litsy/Littens!!! 📚💜💙💜💙💜📚 👇🏻 6y
Megabooks Out of Print asked me if I wanted to be a suggested user in the summer of 2016, and I thought, “Great, I‘ll get to meet a lot more people.” But after awhile, it was really wearing on me, especially when I was depressed. I wish I had grown my new followers more organically. #FoodforThought 6y
Cinfhen 18k is ridiculous @Megabooks That‘s wayyyyy too many to weed through even if only a quarter post!!!!! 6y
Freespirit I started following you last year (2018 when I joined) but want to thank you for your kindness and generosity. That's what makes Litsy so special @Cinfhen 😊 6y
ShyBookOwl 5? Hmm. Well, I haven't entered giveaways because I don't read many physical books. With my chronic pain issue, I can only manage a physical book of about 250 pages. But it's nice to see them pop up 😊 6y
BarbaraBB It is really saddening that only five people or maybe a bit more saw your post (they would have entered otherwise, obviously). I have stopped looking who my new followers are, I wait for interaction. Most of them just signed up and never post. 6y
Cinfhen Awwwwww, thanks so much @Freespirit @ShyBookOwl I appreciate the sweet hello!!! If you want to enter feel free... I can always send books to your kindle @ShyBookOwl ( assuming you‘re in the US) for some reason my Amazon US account can‘t ship or gift books to other countries 🤷‍♀️ 6y
Cinfhen I stopped following back new followers unless we have some interaction @BarbaraBB and part of me is VERY tempted to cull my follower list to only people that I really interact with... this way I can actually see what my friends are reading and posting. Otherwise I miss seeing posts Im interested in. 6y
ShyBookOwl @Cinfhen that's so nice of you to offer, but I am in Canada 6y
Cinfhen Darn. That‘s too bad @ShyBookOwl ☹️ 6y
BarbaraBB I always do that, keeping my following list small (relatively) because I really want to read about books/genres I am interested in and posts from people I like / am interested in! (edited) 6y
DebinHawaii Such a nice idea for a giveaway @Cinfhen 🤗I share the pain of too many followers. I was made a suggested user back in the day & felt obligated to follow everyone because the SU list had so few current people on it. When I had my health scare I got behind & then went to only following those who posted & I still have 14K+ followers although I follow about 1/2 that number due to the low posting rate. It does make it an effort to see friend's posts😟 6y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yes, it made Litsy a little less fun. ☹️ I was ready not to be one when library thing removed me. 6y
TrishB I only follow back now when people have posted or interacted with me. I still have too many just no time to think about culling really. I tend to look individually at friends every couple of days if I think I‘ve missed their posts. 6y
Cinfhen Happy you found me @DebinHawaii with our time difference I often miss your posts!! And I miss seeing you and Max 💜 6y
GypsyKat Such a sweet idea! 💖 6y
Centique @TrishB I do the same thing Trish. And my time difference is such that I need to go look up friends each time I‘m on here and see what I‘ve missed - which is why I all of a sudden turn up and like eight posts at once! 😂 6y
Centique Just out of interest - even before Library Thing - when I first started on here I went searching for people to follow, looking up different names and consistently found about two thirds of each search return were blank accounts. It seemed bizarre that it was such a massive percentage - they should clean some out I reckon. 6y
TrishB @Centique agreed! I know I end up liking things 2 days after they‘re posted! But that‘s fine too 😁 6y
Cinfhen Thanks @GypsyKat 💋💋 6y
Cinfhen It is odd @Centique !!!!!! 👇🏼 (edited) 6y
Cinfhen Not that u comment 3 days later but that new followers don‘t seem to be active at all 6y

Phenomenal book (will review after I finish). But I had to pause after this quote. I often find myself pretty disappointed if I have high expectations (from dates, new restaurants, cities, you name it). I am an optimist but I have learned that sometimes it‘s good to have low expectations or no expectations at all (although that‘s tough for me). What do you all think? #foodforthought #qotd

"The best books... are those that tell you what you already know."

One of my prized possessions. I got this copy at our local used books and rarities store. This book opened my perspective as a teenager. I've been an #Orwell fan ever since. #1984 #foodforthought

CoffeeNBooks Great book! I've read it several times, and I've taught it in my AP Literature class a few times. 6y
DePaepe @CoffeeNBooks definitely a good choice for students. I recommend it all the time. I feel everyone should read this at least once. 6y
tealwish That's a gorgeous volume! Big Brother as a fist in the sky - I love it! 6y
