Catching up on Letters from Father Christmas this morning with breakfast and laughing about the “Rory Bory Aylis fireworks” and the North Polar Bear‘s antics!

JazzFeathers I caught up to yesterday. Every time l read these letters, l love them the more 😁 1mo
Daisey @BethM @peanutnine Agreed! I never knew about Tolkien‘s artistic talents until I started reading more of his work on Litsy. It‘s so wonderful! 1mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers I don‘t know that I can love them any more than I already do, but I do find new things to appreciate every time. 1mo
tpixie This book of letters is so fun and beautiful 🤩 1mo
BarbaraJean I treated myself to the Centenary edition this year and am so glad I did! I loved the illustrations last year but they're even better in this larger edition. And I'm loving all the commentary that the North Polar Bear adds along the way!! 1mo
Deifio I love what the north polar bear gets up to. 1mo

I finished rereading Sir Orfeo this morning with breakfast. I enjoyed this poem and as before I noted some similarities to the story of Aragorn as a king returning to his land as a man out of the wild and unrecognized.

JazzFeathers That's true! I hadn't thought of it. What l noticed was Tolkien obvious interest in the arc of temptation and fall. 4mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers Also an interesting observation. I find it so fascinating to read the things that influenced authors I love. It really adds a whole new layer to appreciating their work. 4mo

Daisey Also, to our fellow readers, we‘re planning to read Tolkien and the Great War next, if you want to start finding your book. 4mo
CatLass007 I have it! 4mo
wordslinger42 Do you have any thoughts on when we‘ll be starting Tolkien and the Great War? 4mo
Daisey @wordslinger42 Hopefully early in October since we‘re already past when we planned to have this one done. Sarah and I are both busy so keeping up and coming up with a new schedule has been a bit of a challenge. 4mo

Good morning! Today we start our next Tolkien readalong. I‘m so looking forward to discussing these poetic translations with other readers. Additionally, I‘ve missed my Sunday morning breakfast with Tolkien time. I‘m reading this print copy and also downloaded an audio to listen as well.

AllDebooks I have this audiobook, too. 5mo
BethM I just finished todays- sometimes I‘m astounded by how much smarter people are than I am 😂 5mo

I haven‘t had much actual reading time lately, so I caught up yesterday on audio while I took my beagle Luthien for a long rambling walk. “Of the Flight of the Noldor” is heartbreaking to me every time, but it‘s also an amazing story.

This morning I read “Of the Sindar” with breakfast. Here we learn more about Thingol & Melian and meet their daughter Luthien.

Happy Sunday Littens! I‘m so looking forward to rereading this again with a group of readers here. It‘s sometimes a tough read, but I get more out of every reread.

mabell I won‘t be reading along with this one, if you would like to remove me 😊 11mo
mabell PS - Yummy looking breakfast! 11mo
CatLass007 I‘m listening to the audiobook narrated by Derek Jacobi. It doesn‘t have the forward and preface. Should I be concerned about missing something? 11mo
CatLass007 Actually, it‘s not Derek Jacobi. 11mo
Daisey @CatLass007 The main part of the preface is excerpts from a letter that Tolkien wrote to Milton Waldman. You can read about the letter here: https://www.teawithtolkien.com/blog/Letter131 11mo
CatLass007 Thank you. 11mo
JazzFeathers I'm so excited too. It's been some time since last we read it 🤩 11mo

Saturday morning #BreakfastWithTolkien!
I caught up on a few days of poetry reading this morning. It‘s hard to choose which pages to share because these illustrations by Alan Lee are all so amazing! I‘m always amused reading the fun poems supposedly written by hobbits.

#FellowshipOfTolkien #BookAndBreakfast

AllDebooks I'm starting today 13mo
BarbaraJean 😍Thank you for sharing some of the illustrations when you post! I‘m sad I‘m not reading it in print this time around—alas for the need of a digital version while traveling! 13mo
JazzFeathers There are so many great illustration, but this one in the picture, for some reason, is one of my favourite. 12mo

Sunday morning breakfast and reading this weekend‘s letters from Father Christmas. We‘re getting more into the longer story letters, and I love it. These letters introduce the trouble making goblins for the first time, and there are all kinds of illustrations.

#TolkienChristmas #FellowshipOfTolkien #BreakfastWithTolkien #BookAndBreakfast

AnnR I love how the stories become more sophisticated with the polar bear and the troublesome goblins. It makes for better illustrations too. 13mo

AllDebooks This might be my new favourite Christmas book 😍 13mo
Cortg Just got caught up! I love the hieroglyphics. This must have been such a magical letter for these kids 🎅🏼 13mo
BethM The pictures are gorgeous! 13mo
JazzFeathers The middle of the book is simply fantastic. That was the same time Tolkien was telling Bilbo's stories to his children and he was clearly on a roll 😜 13mo

Sunday morning book and breakfast with Tolkien!

I read Book 6 Chapter 7 “Homeward Bound” with breakfast this morning. After several reads, this chapter actually makes me a bit anxious as I just want them to keep moving and get to the Shire. At the same time, I love their visit to Bree and Butterbur‘s reaction to Strider as king.

#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien #BookAndBreakfast #BreakfastWithTolkien

BarbaraJean I felt similarly anxious reading “Many Partings” last night, especially when they encounter Saruman on the road. It‘s foreshadowing, guys! Get a move on! 1y
Daisey @BarbaraJean Exactly! Saruman talking about the Shire is not a good sign. 1y

Sunday morning book and breakfast

I‘ve barely ready any of The Two Towers this week and I don‘t have much time this morning. Hoping I can squeeze in a few chapters through the day today.

#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien #BreakfastWithTolkien #BookAndBreakfast

LiteraryinPA Such a pretty reading spot! 1y
Daisey @LiteraryinLawrence It is! I love reading in my backyard. 1y
JazzFeathers It's been a tough week for mee too 🙁 How did yours go, in the end? I'm with Faramirvst the moment 😁 1y
Daisey @JazzFeathers I‘ve been all kinds of busy and stressed, so I haven‘t finished. I‘ve still got 3 chapters. 1y
