BarbaraJean I treated myself to the Centenary edition this year and am so glad I did! I loved the illustrations last year but they're even better in this larger edition. And I'm loving all the commentary that the North Polar Bear adds along the way!! 1mo

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, Sir Orfeo | J. R. R. Tolkien

I finished rereading Sir Orfeo this morning with breakfast. I enjoyed this poem and as before I noted some similarities to the story of Aragorn as a king returning to his land as a man out of the wild and unrecognized.

Daisey @wordslinger42 Hopefully early in October since we‘re already past when we planned to have this one done. Sarah and I are both busy so keeping up and coming up with a new schedule has been a bit of a challenge. 4mo

The Silmarillion | J.R.R. Tolkien

I haven‘t had much actual reading time lately, so I caught up yesterday on audio while I took my beagle Luthien for a long rambling walk. “Of the Flight of the Noldor” is heartbreaking to me every time, but it‘s also an amazing story.

This morning I read “Of the Sindar” with breakfast. Here we learn more about Thingol & Melian and meet their daughter Luthien.

AnnR I love how the stories become more sophisticated with the polar bear and the troublesome goblins. It makes for better illustrations too. 13mo

Sunday morning book and breakfast with Tolkien!

I read Book 6 Chapter 7 “Homeward Bound” with breakfast this morning. After several reads, this chapter actually makes me a bit anxious as I just want them to keep moving and get to the Shire. At the same time, I love their visit to Bree and Butterbur‘s reaction to Strider as king.
