I‘ve had my book back for a while, but I realized I hadn‘t yet shared this collage of our #CoverToCover postal book club reads. Now, we‘re ready to start another round!

tpixie Yay! Thanks! I love to take a screenshot of these photos!!! I can‘t wait to start the next round. I‘m mailing my book tomorrow! 3mo
Daisey @tpixie I need to prep my book and hope to send it out at the beginning of next week. So excited to start another round! 3mo
tpixie @Daisey yes!! Me too- it‘s a great opportunity for me to read books and get exposed to authors I never would‘ve otherwise. 3mo

Making and Keeping Creative Journals | Suzanne J.E. Tourtillott

3/5⭐ The designs are nice with thorough coverage of many journal-making techniques. The layout of the book is technical and heavy on text, sometimes bloated. I would have liked more photos of the finished projects. Some of the fonts are very small and/or almost illegible, making things difficult to read.

slategreyskies I think that, with a book of this nature that is supposed to be both informative and inspirational, it would be tough to do the subject justice without a lot of photos. I mean it‘s a book on a visual creative form. How could they skimp on the pics? Hope the next one is better! 📚💕 6mo

Thanks for the tag @IndoorDame #wonderouswednesday
1. It completely depends on the book for me. But sometimes I really appreciate a good epilogue.
2. I love pictures. I wish there were more. And I love maps. And I love interactive features.
3. I think my recliners- both indoor and my outdoor chairs that recline, or a comfy rocking chair.

Who else wants to play?

IndoorDame Outdoor recliner sounds like heaven 💗 2y

It‘s a good morning for snuggling with the pets, sipping a cup of coffee, and reading. I‘m finally making some time to truly get into this book that I can‘t mention by title since it‘s for our #CoverToCover postal book club and thoroughly enjoying it.

Mccall0113 Thank you to @Soubhiville for starting this lasting friendship. And to my bookish friends! 3y
Soubhiville @Nute it‘s like a very extended #LMPBC. There are around 12 members, so each cycle takes a year! And they‘ve kept it going this whole time and gotten pretty close. 3y
Soubhiville @Mccall0113 ☺️🥰 3y
tpixie @Nute yes! Like @Soubhiville said. We mail a book and a journal and pass it around to each other. When we get the book back we get to see what everyone thought of the book we picked! We‘re halfway through round four! We call ourselves #Covertocover (edited) 3y

I had several issues with this book.

The poetic rhyming was forced at a few points. The illustrations for this story, supposedly set in early medieval Ireland (with monks shown creating manuscripts similar to the Book of Kells), depict modern shoes and Roman style tonsures when the Irish during this period had their own distinct tonsure. ⬇️

bibliothecarivs But the biggest problem I had with the book was the central story idea that no one had thought of using colour to illustrate the monks's writings and drawings until the protagonist accidentally stained his fingers with blackberries. Everything, we are told several times, was brown and boring until Theophane had his juicy revelation and instantly the monastery fully embraced colour in art (and interior design). ⬇️ 3y
bibliothecarivs That apparently happened because he was the only monk who noticed and appreciated how colourful the natural world outside their windows was. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't buy that premise socially or historically. Humans have used color in their art since cave paintings. ⬇️ 3y
bibliothecarivs So was there ever a moment in time when the monks producing these beautiful manuscripts shifted from not using colour to suddenly doing so? I doubt it, but I'm open to learning if I'm wrong. 3y

4.5/5⭐ *Didn't realize until I got major déjà vu that this book is an updated version of Diehn's Real Life Journals, which I've read. Reposting my review of that book.* Another good journal book from Gwen Diehn. I really appreciated the way it balances practical step-by-step instructions w/ inspirational examples. It covers a wide range of journal content topics & binding/cover methods, & infuses personalization on every page. #bookspinbingo
