#12Booksin2021

This is really a stand in for the whole series. I love books that can make me laugh and the 4 Wodehouse novels read I‘ve read did exactly that multiple times. This is really just strung together short stories, many featuring Bertie‘s pal Bingo, who is just as imbecilic as he and falls in love with any girl at the drop of a hat. Bertie gets roped in and and Jeeves bails them out.

Many thanks to @Andrew65 for this fun challenge. 🙏

Andrew65 Great books. It has been fun to re Jew reading from last year and choose new books for this year. 3y

This was beautiful and is my #12booksin2021 for December. It‘s got a wonderful lyrical feel, fable like but powerfully feminist story. Would@recommend for anyone looking for a weather book for booked22
@Andrew65 thank you for this challenge I realise I had a much better reading year than I thought!!

Andrew65 Looks great. Same time next year 🤣 It has been a great way of reviewing last year. (edited) 3y

My #December favorite for #12Booksin2021

This legendary fantasy completely lives up to the hype. Can‘t wait to continue it this year, along with my new appreciation for Sanderson.

Andrew65 Need to read him this year. 3y

This is my favorite book from #November. A secretive group of women who have all lost children, but whose killers have gone unpunished, dispense their own brand of justice in this page-turner. The ending was 😲!

Andrew65 Already have this one stacked. 3y

#12Booksin2021

This was a re-read,and I meant to go directly on to the second book...oops... but it‘s on the TBR for 2022. Still, I really enjoyed this revisit. Knowing I wouldn‘t understand all the nautical terms allowed me to relax and just appreciate the adventure of it all. And it is riveting. Even though I remembered what happened in general, I was holding my breath for those tense moments when Captain Aubrey and crew were in peril.

LeahBergen Yes, I‘ve been telling myself to read more of the series this year, too! 3y
Ruthiella @LeahBergen Well, I‘ve got book one down twice now. Only 19 more to go! 😆 3y
Andrew65 Great series, I need to progress this series this year. 3y

Ruthiella @Andrew65 Nice to know you are also a fan! 3y
Andrew65 @Ruthiella I also love the Hornblower series by CS Forester which I re-read in 2021. 3y
Ruthiella @Andrew65 I have toyed with reading Hornblower books too. Especially since I hear they have a lot less sailing jargon in ‘em. 😆 3y

Dealing with Disappointment | Elizabeth Crary

I am disappointed with myself.

In 2020 I read 54 books. In 2021 I read only 42 and that counting the ones I bailed on, which I didn‘t last year.

This year brought different challenges than previous years. I dedicated myself to other hobbies, but I‘m still surprised by my numbers.

We don‘t succeed in every challenge but challenging ourselves is how we better ourselves, right?

Right?!!?

RamsFan1963 You're right. It's the joy of the challenge you should focus on, not always the end result. I missed my goal by 2 books, but I read more than I had before so I don't consider it a failure. I set the same goal for 2022 and I'll try again. Fail or succeed I can look forward to many rewarding books. 3y
EvieBee Right! My motto is enjoyment over number, any day. 3y
wanderinglynn I recommend instead of saying I *only* read 42 books, say, I *read* 42 books! 🎉 There‘s no failure if you read at all. Plus, you‘re clearly an interesting person who has a variety of hobbies. And considering the average books read for an American is 12 & 23% of people didn‘t read at all last year (according to Pew Research), you‘re well above average. So YAY you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And at the end of the day, all that matters is you enjoy reading. 💜 (edited) 3y

Itchyfeetreader Good advice @wanderinglynn Like you I had what felt like a bad reading year. I have been doing @Andrew65 #12booksin2021 and it‘s made me realise that even if my rewarding year wasn‘t anything I had hoped for, I did read some great books that will go onto be recommendations or favourites. I hope some of the books you read brought that joy. 3y
Andrew65 2021 was a difficult year, like you I read a lot less than the previous year. This will spur me in to reading more this year. 3y
Andrew65 @Itchyfeetreader it has been a really good way to read my reading year, and also identified which were my most productive and / or enjoyable months. 3y
AllDebooks I agree with all of the above. I lost my way at the start of the pandemic. I found I couldn't focus or enjoy reading, which was ironic as it's my go to relaxation and escapism. I found my way back by listening to non-fiction audiobooks. I also discovered I could docus on short stories and essay collections. This eased me back in and I'm over that blip. Don't see reading goals as a failure, they're something to aim for. 3y
AllDebooks The key is to fuel your passion for stories and knowledge and not get caught up in the stats. I hope you're all feeling better soon x 3y

#12Booksin2021

My 2ond Pratchett only cemented the fact that I am totally on board with Pratchett‘s humor and sensibilities. In 2021, I became a Discworld convert. This title is no. 24 in the series and no. 5 in the City Watch sub-series. While I would have benefited from reading it in sequence, I still heartily enjoyed this story of Sam Vines, City Watch Commander being sent to the Uberwald for the new Dwarf King coronation. Hijinks ensue! 😂

Graywacke I love the 5th Elephant. Glad you‘re enjoying discworld. 3y
Ruthiella @Graywacke I can‘t believe it took me so long to pick these books up. I love them and the two I read made me laugh out loud - always a good sign. 3y
vivastory I really need to read more Pratchett! 3y

Ruthiella @vivastory So do I. I have at least one titled lined up for 2022. 3y
MariaW 😍 3y
bthegood thank you for the review - reading this has me thinking of becoming a convert as well and I have TBRd the first book in the series - make a great day 🙂 (edited) 3y
BiblioLitten Which one was your first Pratchett? 3y
Ruthiella @BiblioLitten I started with The Truth. These two are the first two because I had copies on my shelves. 3y
Ruthiella @bthegood They are funny and satirical. If you like British humor, you will also probably enjoy them. 😃 3y
CarolynM I loved the Discworld but I have to admit to having run out of steam with it while it was still in progress. Some of the early ones have a special place in my heart. 3y
Ruthiella @CarolynM I can see that happening, for sure. I will pace myself with one-two per year. 3y
